Hardik Pandya has made a brilliant comeback this year in international cricket for India and in Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Gujarat Titans. Hardik Pandya suffered a back injury last year due to which he took a break from cricket after the T20 World Cup last year. Shanker Basu in a conversation revealed how Hardik is extremely cautious about his fitness.
Shanker Basu was the former strength and conditioning coach of the Indian team. He worked closely with Indian Cricketers in keeping them fit. While talking on YouTube channel ‘BeerBiceps’, Basu revealed that Hardik Pandya asked him for help before ODI World Cup 2019 to keep him match fit throughout the World Cup.
While talking on ‘BeerBiceps’ YouTube channel, Shankar Basu said , “Hardik is a great guy. I remember the 2019 World Cup, it was post-IPL and he was sore, having played a lot of matches. He said to me ‘Sir, please get me through this World Cup. I need to be fit’. And I got him through.”
Eventually Hardik Pandya remained fit throughout the ODI World Cup 2019. Hardik played a crucial role for the Indian in ODI World Cup 2019. Hardik scored 226 runs with the bat in the World Cup at a good strike rate. He also picked up 10 crucial wickets in the World Cup.
“Part and parcel of game” – Shanker Basu on injuries
Shanker Basu also played a huge role in the transformation of Virat Kohli to a fitness freak. Basu further in the conversation said that Hardik is a very hard working guy. Talking about the injuries of Hardik, Basu stated that injuries are part and parcel of the game for all-rounders and pacers.
“Hardik had not played much junior cricket. Suddenly, he has been catapulted to the international level, and the loads are much higher. He has to do it day in and day out. He is getting used to it now. Of course, fast bowlers and all-rounders are going to get injured every now and then. That is part and parcel of the game,” Shanker Basu concluded.
