SL vs BAN: Sri Lanka Announces Squad For Test Series Against Bangladesh, Hasranga Comes Out Of Retirement

Sri Lanka announced a strong squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at their den. These two test matches are a part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship cycle.

The first Test match will be played at Sylhet International Ground, Sylhet from 22nd March which will be followed by the second match to be played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.

Sri Lanka would be playing their 2nd test series in this cycle as were completely outplayed by Pakistan at home by 0-2. Dhananjaya has been appointed as the new test captain and would be eager to showcase their domination over Bangladesh and get valuable points in the WTC cycle.

Dimuth Karaunate, Nishan Madushanka, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Kamindu Mendis, and Lahiru Udara comprise of batters.

Wanindu Hasranga, Prabath Jayasuriya, Ramesh Mendis, and Nishan Peris comprise spin bowling options. Kasun Rajitha, Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, and Chamika Gunasekara will comprise pace bowling options.

Hasranga and Nishan Peris are the two changes from the one-off Test match against Afghanistan last month.

It promises to be an exciting contest as Sri Lanka won the T20I series by 2-1 while Bangladesh won the ODI series by 2-1. Hasranga played his last test match against Bangladesh at Pallekele on 21st April 2021. He grabbed 0 wickets in the entire match.

Hasranga to miss the First Half of the IPL

Wanindu Hasranga decided to come out of test retirement to feature in the 2-match Test series against Bangladesh starting from 22nd March. He was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore after last year’s season and bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 1.5 Crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will start their tournament against Kolkata Knight Riders on 23rd March. They would next play against Mumbai Indians on 27th March at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

After this, they will face Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 31st March.  He would be touch and go for the fourth game of the last phase to be played against CSK on 5th April at Hyderabad.
