Team India have started their training for the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, which starts on July 13. The Men in Blue under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan will play three ODIs and as many T20Is.

After a three-day mandatory quarantine, the cricketers have stepped outside their hotel room and began their training at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo under the watchful eyes of Rahul Dravid.

The entire squad, which comprises six uncapped cricketers, had a light training session outdoor. Rahul Dravid, who is in charge of the squad in place of Ravi Shastri, was also seen having a deep conversation with skipper Shikhar Dhawan.

Sri Lanka series a great opportunity for all of us to showcase talent: India captain Shikhar Dhawan

The captain for the upcoming series between India and Sri Lanka, Dhawan termed the upcoming series as a challenge and said the matches in the island nation will provide the fringe players an opportunity to showcase their talent and be in the reckoning for a place in the main team.

“This is a very good team. There is positivity, confidence in our team and everybody is confident that we will do well. There is lot of excitement,” Dhawan said at the virtual pre-departure press conference.

“It is a new challenge but at the same time, it is a great opportunity for all of us to show our talent. Everybody is waiting (for the tour to begin). 13-14 days have passed since we are in quarantine, so the players are waiting when we can hit the ground and we have 10-12 days for preparation,” he added.
