SL vs IND: Why Shubman Gill Is Not Playing Today’s 2nd T20I Match?

Shubman Gill, the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team, became unavailable for choice in the 2nd T20I in opposition to Sri Lanka, held at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Gill had showcased a remarkable batting overall performance in the first match of the series on Saturday, scoring an excellent 34 runs off simply 16 balls. His explosive start, at the aspect of large contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryakumar Yadav, enabled India to put up an effective overall of 213/7 in their 20 overs.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave a legit update stating that Gill had woken up with a neck spasm, which rendered him unfit to play in the 2nd match.

Consequently, he was not included in the playing XI. Suryakumar Yadav, captain of the Indian side said: “Gill misses out as he woke up with a neck spasm, (Sanju) Samson comes in.”

Shubman Gill, initially part of the reserves during the T20 World Cup until the group stages, saw a significant shift in his career when the BCCI selected him to captain a largely second-string Indian squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe. This decision underscored the confidence the board had in Gill’s leadership abilities.

India’s playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, and Mohammed Siraj.

Sri Lanka’s playing XI: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wicketkeeper), Kusal Perera, Kamindu Mendis, Charith Asalanka (captain), Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Ramesh Mendis, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, and Asitha Fernando.

The absence of Shubman Gill due to a neck injury was a good big setback for the Indian team due to his overall impressive performance under the previous match but despite this change, the team aims to retain their strengths and based on it to the series of each new victory in it.
