SLvIND : Sri Lanka stare at heavy defeat as clinical India eye series whitewash

Indian dominance continued on the 2nd day as they are nine wickets away from a historic whitewash. Hardik Pandya scored his first test century and then the Indian bowlers made sure that they bowl out hosts for 135. Deciding to follow-on, Sri Lanka is 19 for 1, still, trail India by a massive 333 runs margin.

Starting the day on 329 for 6, India lost an early wicket of Wriddhiman Saha adding just 10 runs. Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav played Sri Lankan bowlers easily adding 62 runs for the 8th wicket. Pandya completed his fifty in 61 balls. When 9 wickets fell, Hardik Pandya smashed them to all parts of the ground. He took just 25 balls to complete his next fifty runs to complete his first century. Pandya smashed Pushpkumara for 26 runs in an over. At the lunch break, India were 487 for 9.

After the interval, Pandya did not add any runs and was dismissed for 108. Sri Lankan innings got off to a worse start losing the wicket of Tharanga in the fourth over. Karunanthe was too dismissed by Mohammed Shami to leave Sri Lanka at 23 for 2. Kusal Mendis and Mathews were dismissed in quick succession as the hosts were reduced to 38 for 4. Niroshan Dickwella with Captain Dinesh Chandimal helped Sri Lanka go into tea at 61 for 4.

In the third session, both batsmen played with positive intent adding 40 runs before Dickwella was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav for 29. The tail could not contribute much. Dinesh Chandimal tried to steady the innings as he was dismissed by Ashwin for 48. Sri Lanka wwasbowled out for 135 in 37.4 overs.

Deciding to follow-on, Sri Lankan openers Tharanga and Karunanthe struggled to face India’s new ball bowlers. Umesh Yadav struck before the close of play dismissing Tharanga for 7. Sri Lanka ended the second day on 19 for 1.
