The preparation for the much anticipated IPL 2020 is in full flow in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). All franchises reached the host nation well in advance and have now also commenced their outdoor training session. Now the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has also departed for Dubai to supervise developments of IPL 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 scare, the IPL for the first time will be conducted in a bio-secure bubble. The 13th edition of the mega league will take place from September 19- November 10 in the UAE. Ganguly will be in charge of all the preparations of IPL this year as he boarded his flight for Dubai today.
Sourav Ganguly Leaves For IPL 2020
“My first flight in 6 months to Dubai for IPL…crazy life changes,” Ganguly updated everyone on his Instagram handle with a picture. He wore a mask and face shield, part of the Standard Operating Procedure while flying amid the pandemic.
The BCCI had worked overtime this year to find a possible window for IPL 2020 after it was delayed in April and May due to the coronavirus pandemic. Due to the rising cases in India, the cricket board ultimately decided to conduct their cash-rich league for the second time in the UAE.
Moreover, all the matches will be played across 3 venues in the UAE which are Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah Cricket Stadium. A few days back the BCCI announced the official IPL 2020 schedule after a long wait. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are all set to clash in the season opener on September 19 in the UAE.
Moreover, the BCCI would have suffered a revenue disaster of Rs 4000 crore if the tournament, which usually takes place during the summer in India had not been conducted this year. Apart from Ganguly, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel is among the other key officials who are already in Dubai.
