Sourav Ganguly Points Out Reasons Behind India’s Golden Run In Recent Times

Sourav Ganguly

Indian Cricket Team has grown leaps and bounds in recent times and has emerged as one of the strong forces in world cricket. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly, who was responsible for a paradigm shift in Indian cricket as a captain, has asserted that a solid cricketing system has enabled to produce the rich stocks of talent over the years.

Virat Kohli & Co’s recent performances against England and Australia across formats have given evidence that they could rule world cricket for the next decade. The following month will see the men in blue take on New Zealand in the final of the ICC World Test Championship. After that, they will embark on a mission to become the first Indian side after 2007 to win a Test series in England. If the tourists could achieve that, it would cement their legacy for a long time.

The system is strong – Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly underlined that the domestic system and National Cricket Academy are of top-notch qualities, with the selections happening only on merit. The former Indian captain also credited the Indian Premier League (IPL) since it has given the players confidence that they belong at this level.

“The system is strong – domestic cricket, NCA (National Cricket Academy), coaches. The IPL is also a reason. Fairness of selection; only the best gets picked. There is transparency. The cricket system is robust. Four-day and T20 cricket are different, but the IPL does help. Gives confidence that you can play at this level. Talent is important and adjustment is not a problem,” Ganguly said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

When asked whether the current generation could be compared with the one in 2003, Sourav Ganguly said that both teams have made remarkable progress during both eras. Although Ganguly refused to compare but praised the current side for making Indian cricket proud.
