Sourav Ganguly Re-Appointed as Chair of ICC Men’s Cricket Committee

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has been re-appointed as the chairperson of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, a position he first assumed in 2021. Ganguly, who led India from 2000 to 2005, continues to be a significant figure in international cricket governance. The 52-year-old took over the role from Anil Kumble, who had completed his maximum term of three three-year stints. This re-appointment reflects the ICC’s trust in Ganguly’s leadership and his contributions to the game, both as a player and administrator.

VVS Laxman and Other Notable Appointments

Joining Ganguly once again on the committee is his former teammate and stylish Indian batsman, VVS Laxman. Laxman has been retained as a panel member, reinforcing the presence of experienced Indian voices in cricket’s top decision-making body. In addition to Ganguly and Laxman, the ICC has appointed former Afghan fast bowler Hamid Hassan and West Indies legend Desmond Haynes. South African captain Temba Bavuma and former England batter Jonathan Trott are also part of the committee. This diverse group brings in a wide range of experience and perspectives, vital for shaping the future of international cricket.

Women’s Cricket Committee Sees New Leadership

The ICC has also announced updates to its Women’s Cricket Committee. Former New Zealand off-spinner Catherine Campbell has been named the new chairperson of the committee. She is joined by Avril Fahey, a former Australian cricketer, and Pholetsi Moseki from Cricket South Africa. This new panel is expected to enhance the growth and development of women’s cricket worldwide. With experienced professionals at the helm, the committee aims to push forward innovative ideas and stronger governance for the women’s game.

The ICC’s recent appointments reflect a balanced approach, combining experience with a global perspective. Ganguly’s continued leadership, along with support from seasoned cricketers like Laxman and Haynes, sets a strong foundation for cricket’s evolution. The changes in the women’s committee further highlight the ICC’s commitment to inclusive and progressive development across all formats and genders.
