The “giraffe” Morne Morkel is currently playing his last match of International career at Johannesburg. Hepicked over 300 scalps in whites and took a 9-wickethaulagainst the Aussies at Capetown in his penultimate test.

Reports suggest that this star bowler has signed a Kolpak deal with Surrey to start his county career. It is to be noted that he is the fourth Southafrican after Kyle Abbott, Rilee Rossouw, and David Wiese to sign the deal in a span of 15 months.

He will be playing alongside Mitchell Marsh, Aaron Finch, Jason Roy, and Indian batting icon Virat Kohli if he represents the team.

Morne”s addition will boost the chances of clinching the county championship for Surrey who has been eyeing since 2002. It is expected he will be joining the squad after the farewell test.

In quitting South African cricket, Morkel said:  ‘I have a young family and a foreign wife, and the current demanding international schedule has put a lot of strain us. I have to put them first and this decision will only benefit us going forward.

‘I have loved every minute that I have played in the Proteas jersey, and I am incredibly grateful to my teammates, Cricket South Africa, and my family and friends for the support over the years. I still feel there is a lot of cricket left in me and I am excited for what lies ahead.’
