The Indian Team registered their first historic Test victory with 7 wicket win after the lunch break on 2nd day played at Cape Town on 4th January 2024.

It was a superb bowling effort as they bundled out South Africa for just 55 runs on the first morning. The pitch had variable bounce troubling the batters as Indian team took a lead of 98 runs. The second innings saw bowl out South Africa cheaply. India lost 3 wickets but won their first match at Cape Town after a gap of 31 years.

3 Indian Players Who Played Key Roles in Winning 2nd Test Match Against South Africa:

  1. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj wreaked havoc with a superb effort on the first morning. He got the early breakthrough dismissing Aiden Markram as Jaiswal took a stunning catch. Siraj then dismissed South African captain Dean Elgar taking inside edge onto the stumps.

It was a superb bowling effort as Siraj then grabbed the wickets of Tony de Zorzi down the leg, and David Bedingham with a peach of a delivery. He continued his superb form with the wickets of Marco Jansen to leave South Africa in deep trouble. His final wicket came dismissing Kyle Verryene finishing with figures of 6 for 15 in 9 overs.

Siraj bowled superbly in the 2nd innings. He got the big wicket of centurion Aiden Markram to end the partnership. He picked 1 for 31 in 9 overs. For his match-winning effort, Siraj was named the player of the match award.

  1. Jasprit Bumrah

The premier pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah showed his class in the entire test match. He troubled the South African openers before getting rid of debutant Tristan Stubbs with a simple catch at short leg. He ended the South African innings getting the wicket of Nandie Burger to finish with figures of 2 for 25 in 8 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah was at his lethal best in the 2nd innings. He produced a peach to dismiss Tristian Stubbs to pick his first wicket. The pace bowler dismissed David Bedingham in the first over of day 2. He showed his class by getting wickets of Kyle Verreyne and then took a sharp return catch to dismiss Marco Jansen.

He was introduced into the attack and dismissed Lungi Ngidi to finish with figures of 6 for 61 in 13.5 overs. For his 12 wickets, Bumrah was named player of the series along with Dean Elgar.

  1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli played a superb knock on a tough batting pitch. He came at the crease after the fall of Rohit Sharma’s wicket. He showed his class playing aggressive strokes putting pressure on South African pace bowling.

As wickets fell from the other end, Kohli looked in great touch keeping the scoreboard ticking and making life tough for South African bowlers. He was eventually dismissed for 46 off 59 deliveries with 6 fours and 1 six. His knock helped India to take the lead.

Kohli had a decent outing in the first innings with cut shots and played according to the merit of the ball. He scored a quickfire 12 off 11 deliveries in the 2nd innings and was dismissed right before the winning run.
