Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Offers Rs. 5 Million To Legendary fan ‘Uncle Percy’ For His Health And Well-Being

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) gifted Rs. 5 million to the revered cricket enthusiast Percy Abeysekara, affectionately known as Uncle Percy, to support his health and overall welfare. Uncle Percy is among the most longstanding supporters of the Sri Lankan cricket team.

Since the 1979 World Cup, he has unfailingly waved the Sri Lankan flag in the stadium to back the team. Now in his 80s, and with concern for his health, SLC chose to gift him Rs. 5 million following the conclusion of the Asia Cup 2023 tournament in Colombo.

Sri Lankan commentator Roshan Abeysinghe posted a picture of SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva handing over the funds to Abeysakara and shared the following message on his X profile:

“Sri Lanka Cricket presented Rs.5mn to Mr. Percy Abeysekera to assist him in his wellbeing and maintenance of his health. Great gesture indeed.”

Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket, chaired the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket that approved the decision to recognize Abeysinghe for his unwavering support of the team, despite their victories and defeats.

“Percy’s contribution to the game of cricket in Sri Lanka as a cheerleader is immeasurable” – SLC Secretary

Sri Lanka Cricket’s Honorary Secretary Mohan de Silva commended Percy Abeysekara and described him as a pillar of support for the country’s cricket.

“Percy’s contribution to the game of cricket in Sri Lanka as a cheerleader is immeasurable, and he has been a tower of strength for the players and to the game as a whole, and it was our turn to give back and look into his well being,” Mohan was quoted as saying by News Wire.

Mohan de Silva visited Uncle Percy’s home to deliver the funds on behalf of Sri Lanka Cricket and also checked on his health and welfare.
