Star All-Rounder Returns To CSK In Style Before IPL 2025

England all-rounder Sam Curran made a stylish return to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 season. In a video shared by the franchise, the left-hander winked before putting on the yellow jersey. The Englishman was released by Punjab Kings before the IPL 2025 auction, giving CSK the opportunity to acquire him for ₹2.4 crore.

The left-arm pacer previously represented CSK in 2020 and 2021, taking 22 wickets in 23 matches at an average of 30.54. He also contributed 242 runs with the bat at a strike rate of 142.35. You can watch the video posted by CSK here:

Curran’s standout performance in the 2022 T20 World Cup played a crucial role in England’s title victory. It also led to him becoming the most expensive player in IPL auction history ahead of the 2023 season.

Despite Punjab Kings investing ₹18.5 crore in him, Curran struggled to replicate those performances. With Shikhar Dhawan sidelined due to injury for a few matches last season, he even took on the role of captain for Punjab Kings.

“I was thrilled” – Sam Curran on being bought by CSK in IPL auction

In a recent interview with ESPNcricinfo, Sam Curran shared that returning to the franchise where his IPL journey began feels refreshing. He said:

“I was buzzing. Chennai was where I kickstarted my IPL career. As soon as I was picked up, I had 10-15 messages from people who were there four years ago.”

”I’ve played there as the away team, and you see the love for the players. It also helps when you have the habit of winning and great consistency with [Stephen] Fleming and those guys who have been there since the start.”

Five-time champions CSK missed out on a top-four finish last season. They will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 23 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
