India’s closed-door camp at Alur started for Asia Cup 2023. Ahead of the tournament, Team India are diligently honing their skills in a secluded training session in Alur. Their meticulous preparations for the upcoming continental tournament are in full swing, encompassing routine fitness assessments.

These evaluations are pivotal in ensuring the team’s readiness for the event, slated to kick off on August 30. Of note is the yo-yo test, a standout assessment where Shubman Gill, the youthful opener, led the team with an impressive score of 18.7.

Evidently, all players who underwent the yo-yo test comfortably surpassed the required threshold of 16.5, underscoring their unwavering commitment to peak physical fitness. Even former India skipper Virat Kohli showcased his dedication, sharing a commendable score of 17.2 on his Instagram story.

The comprehensive fitness evaluations have encompassed nearly all players, excluding a select few—Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson (a reserve member for the Asia Cup), and KL Rahul—who are yet to partake in the critical Yo-Yo test.

Kohli’s Instagram Yo-Yo Test Revelation Sparks BCCI Concern; Cricketers Directed to Keep Scores Private

A recent report has indicated that Virat Kohli’s public revelation of his yo-yo test score on Instagram drew dissatisfaction from higher-ups at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In response to the widespread dissemination of Kohli’s post, the Indian team management promptly issued strict directives, instructing all Indian cricketers not to disclose their Yo-Yo test results publicly.

As per the report, these instructions were verbally communicated to all the players currently engaged in an intensive fitness and preparatory camp at Alur in Bengaluru.

A BCCI Source anonymously said: “The yo-yo test being an aerobic endurance fitness test, the results could vary from when you last played and how much of workload you have gone through in the past week. Gill as of now has the highest score of 18.7. Most of the players have scored between 16.5 and 18,”

The approaching Asia Cup is of great significance in India’s World Cup preparations, as they commence their journey against traditional rivals Pakistan on September 2. The potential for these teams to meet thrice in the tournament adds intrigue. Subsequent to the Asia Cup, India is set to engage with Australia in a series of three ODIs, just prior to the high-profile global competition. India’s opening match in the World Cup, scheduled for October 8, will once again pit them against Australia.
