Steve Smith has been troubled by a back injury right from the start of his career. Time and again, the injury has resurfaced, however, Smith has found ways to recover from it. The most recent back injury forced him to pull out of a practice session ahead of the first test, however, he was fit in time to play the first test against India. He did not have scores behind him to prove his fitness in the first test though.

Meanwhile, ahead of the second Test starting on Saturday in Melbourne, the former Australian skipper has said that the nagging back injury is not a concern for him heading into the Boxing Day encounter.

“It’s just something I need to manage whenever it goes and I probably haven’t had an episode since 2014, I think it was, so hopefully they can continue to be six years apart if they come,” Smith told reporters.

He further said that the pain comes back if he is sitting around for a bit too long. Steve Smith did not have a good outing in the two innings of the Adelaide Test. He was out for one in the first innings and was not out for one in the second innings with Joe Burns scoring the winning runs.

“If I’m moving around and laying down I’m good. If I sit around for too long it’s not great for it, but I’m not worried about it. I think everything will be fine and I’ll be good to go,” Steve Smith said.
