Jonny Bairstow‘s burning century in the IPL 2024 season has ignited a new wave of enthusiasm in the cricketing sphere. After struggling with form in prior innings, the PBKS batsman emerged rejuvenated during the KKR vs PBKS game in Kolkata.

Bairstow and his partner Shashak Singh showcased remarkable skill and determination, achieving his century in the 16th over of the match in a stunning fashion.

This century is a significant milestone for Bairstow, being his second in IPL history, further establishing his prowess in T20 cricket. For PBKS supporters, Bairstow’s resurgence is a timely boost, injecting vital momentum into their campaign. As of now, PBKS holds a remarkable score of 261 for 2 after 18 overs.

Jonny Bairstow’s remarkable unbeaten innings of 108 runs from 48 deliveries propelled Punjab Kings to their highest successful T20 run-chase. Despite Kolkata Knight Riders posting a formidable total of 261-6, Punjab Kings reached their target with eight balls to spare and still had eight wickets remaining.

This surpasses the previous record set by South Africa’s chase of 259 against West Indies last year. Bairstow, who was omitted from Punjab’s lineup in the two previous games, responded emphatically with an aggressive display of batting, comprising eight boundaries and nine sixes.

His century off 45 balls is the fastest by an Englishman in the IPL, eclipsing his own record of 52 balls set in 2019.

“We knew that we had to go ballistic after how they batted. We had to take risks and thankfully they came off,” said Bairstow. “I’ve never been faced with a target like that before. So we knew the powerplay would be important, and if anything is close to being in your area you’ve got to make the most of it.”

This year’s IPL has witnessed six of the top seven highest team totals in history, and this match marked the third instance of over 500 aggregate runs being scored in a game.

Despite the loss, KKR remain second in the table, while Punjab Kings are struggling in eighth place.
