IPL 2020 begins tomorrow in the United Arab Emirates. All players are preparing in full flow for the upcoming historic season. It’s IPL season and all eyes will be once again on the mercurial Royal Challengers. The RCB franchise has undoubtedly underperformed considering the talent they have always had in their squad.
This year the franchise will be once again chasing that elusive IPL trophy in the UAE. Ahead of the season, Sunil Gavaskar picked an RCB player that can prove to be a match-winner for them this year. Interestingly Gavaskar did not pick Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers who carry most of the burden for RCB in every IPL.
Gavaskar picks match-winner of RCB
Considering the slow pitches that will assist spinners in UAE, Gavaskar named Yuzvendra Chahal as RCB’s match-winner for this season. Gavaskar added that the popular franchise has surprised everyone by not winning a single IPL title. He thinks that RCB has not clicked collectively as a unit when AB and Virat have underperformed.
“Why a team like Royal Challengers Bangalore hasn’t won the title as yet is a puzzle. Any team that has Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers should never be short of runs and maybe that’s also a problem, for when these two failed, as humans sometimes do, then the others haven’t put their hands up. They have a new coach and will be hoping that this will be their year,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

“On pitches that will get slower, it may be a good idea to have both the champion batsmen open the batting while the ball is hard and new and will come on to the bat nicely than when the spinners are operating. Leggie Yuzvendra Chahal could be a match-winner for RCB on those pitches”, Gavaskar said added.
Meanwhile, RCB will play their opening encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2020. The match will take place on 21 September in Dubai. Kohli and his men will be eager to prove a point this year as they have been below par in the last few seasons.
Also, Mumbai Indians will take on Chennai Super Kings in the season opener on September 19 (Saturday) at Abu Dhabi.
