Suryakumar Yadav Is Cleared To Return For The Final Round Of The Duleep Trophy 2024

Team India star Suryakumar Yadav has regained full fitness and received clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to participate in the third and final round of the 2024 Duleep Trophy. He was taken as a precaution from the India C squad before the tournament’s opening round due to a thumb injury.

After a tumultuous fielding session in the Buchi Babu Invitational at Coimbatore, Dinesh Karthik found it hard to hold the bat, as he had been hit on his right thumb.

At this point in time, Suryakumar will step in for Sarfaraz Khan who is part of the selected team for the first Test against Bangladesh. The team known as India B will be taking on their counterpart named as India D led by Shreyas Iyer under Abhimanyu Easwaran’s captaincy during the final match which will be starting on 19th September from Anantapur.

The 34-year-old was last seen playing in an official match during India’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka at the end of July, where he made his debut as T20I captain and led the team to a 3-0 series victory. Meanwhile, India B secured their first win in the 2024 Duleep Trophy against India A, followed by a drawn match against India C.

“There are many individuals who have put in a lot of effort to secure their position, and I also want to earn my place back”- Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav showed his eagerness of retaking a place back in the Indian Test side that heads into domestic season, even before it commences.

However, with an outstanding first-class record and success story when it comes to white-ball cricket, Suryakumar has only been able to play one Test match for India against Australia during the first game of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the victory by innings for India he managed just 8 runs before being excluded from long format for his country.

“There are a lot of people who have worked really hard to earn their place and even I want to earn that spot again.”

“I made my debut for India in Tests. After that, I got injured as well. There were a lot of people who got an opportunity and have done well too. They deserve that opportunity right now,” said Suryakumar as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

He added: “Going forward, if I have to play, then I will automatically play. That’s not in my control. There are ten Test matches lined up [for India this season] and I’m obviously excited for some red-ball fun.”

Suryakumar Yadav is most probably going to feature in India’s next T20I series after the Tests against Bangladesh which commences on October 6.
