The Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan in Dubai became tense and dramatic as the contest unfolded. Both teams were meeting for the third time in the tournament, and every moment carried pressure.
A major talking point arose during Pakistan’s innings when Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav appealed for “obstructing the field” against Salman Ali Agha. The situation developed on the very first ball of the 16th over when Salman struck a delivery from Axar Patel toward extra cover and tried to complete two runs.
Suryakumar, who collected the ball, attempted a direct hit at the striker’s end. However, the ball struck Salman during his second run, leading Surya to immediately appeal. The umpires sent the decision upstairs, but replays confirmed that Salman had not deviated from his path intentionally. As a result, the third umpire declared him not out, calming the brewing tension.
Toss Drama and Neutral Presenters
Before the high-stakes clash began, another unique situation grabbed headlines. Suryakumar Yadav, having won the toss, chose to bowl first at the Dubai International Stadium. In an unusual arrangement, the toss interviews were carried out separately.
Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri and former Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis interacted with the captains individually. This step was taken after the Pakistan Cricket Board requested the Asian Cricket Council to ensure neutral presenters for the final. The rare move added to the sense of occasion, highlighting how seriously both boards approached the contest.
Suryakumar’s Toss Decision and Team Update
After winning the toss, Suryakumar explained his reasoning to the presenter. He said, “We will bowl first. It looks like a good wicket, and it tends to get better under lights. We’ve been batting well first, but today we want to chase. The groundsmen have done a terrific job with the pitches here. The brand of cricket we’ve played over the last 5-6 games has been excellent. Unfortunately, Hardik misses out with a niggle. Bumrah, Dube, and Rinku come in.”
His words showed confidence in India’s recent form and underlined the team’s readiness to adapt. The absence of Hardik Pandya was a setback, but India’s decision to strengthen the side with Bumrah’s return, along with Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh, balanced the squad. The early moments of the final showcased both strategic planning and high drama, setting the tone for an intense battle between cricket’s fiercest rivals.
