Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Robin Uthappa becomes first batsman to score 1000 runs: Karnataka’s Robin Uthappa became the first batsman in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to enter into the 1000-run club. The aggressive right-handed batsman has been highly successful not just inin the domestic circuit but also in the world famous league – the Indian Premier League.
The 30-year old top-order batsman achieved the feat in the match against Odisha, where he amassed 48 runs which helped Karnataka register an easy six wicket win last Friday.
Uthappa was the only one to be in the illustrious club until Sagun Kamat of Goa with 1051 runs and Rohan Prem of Kerala with 1036 runs joined him couple of days ago.
The Karnataka stalwart has appeared in 183 T20 matches so far and has accumulated 4665 runs which also includes the IPL. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year, Uthappa managed to score 205 runs in 5 matches at an average of 41, registering 80 as his highest score. His strike has been amazing, scoring at a magnificent rate of 139.45. Robin Uthappa can at least hope this numbers grab the attention of the national selectors.
The hard working Robin Uthappa has achieved tons of milestones in the domestic arena and is continuing to inspire Karnataka over the years. As a senior member of the side, Uthappa has done his job pretty well to lift his team up and it’s now onto the national selectors to reward him with opportunities in the Indian team.
