T20 Blast 2021: Watch – Joe Root Bowls A Quick Off-Spinning Bouncer

Joe Root bouncer

While England was engaged in a T20I series with Sri Lanka, Joe Root, who wasn’t part of the squad, played for the Yorkshire Vikings in the 2021 T20 Blast. However, he will be part of the ODI series against the Lankans starting from June 29.

The Yorkshire squad is currently missing its skipper David Willey. In his place, Root has been leading the side. The 30-year-old may not fit the bill for a T20 player but can play the role of an anchor. In 3 matches for the team so far, he has scored 65 runs at a strike-rate of 118.

As of late, he has been trying to fit in the spinner’s shoes for the national side in the longest format. Root’s off-spinners are no joke, having claimed a fifer in the Test series against India. In a recent match between Yorkshire Vikings and Leicestershire Foxes, Root rolled his arm over for the team, and produced a ball that surprised many. He threw a quick bouncer around the off-stump, which Arron Lilley managed to dispatch for a boundary.

Root’s bouncer comes at the 1:29:24 mark:

‘I feel sorry for Joe Root’ – Alastair Cook on England’s rotation policy

The ECB’s rotation policy has come under the scanner from many cricketers and experts. England’s legendary batsman, Alastair Cook was the latest one to join in on the discussion. He felt the selection policies were tinkering too much with Joe Root’s Test team.

“You have to say it hasn’t worked for Rooty, and I do genuinely feel sorry for him. When you are playing for England, or you are the captain, coach or selector, you get judged on end results most of the time. He hasn’t had his best players available [due to rotation policy].

You can’t buy the experience of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali. Those kind of players make a big difference. The decisions don’t seem like they have been made correctly,” Cook was quoted as saying to Sky Sports.
