T20 World Cup 2021: Ish Sodhi Given Green Signal To Play Against Afghanistan

Ish Sodhi

New Zealand has received the green signal to play in-form leg-spinner Ish Sodhi in their final group 1 fixture against Afghanistan on Sunday. Incidentally, the Kiwis need to win their final league game to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 semifinals.

Sodhi was struck on the forehead by a shot from Namibia’s David Wiese which hit his forearm first during New Zealand’s win in Sharjah on Saturday. Ish Sodhi told Stuff on Saturday that he has passed a test for concussion and was ready to play Afghanistan on Sunday.

“Thankfully it wasn’t too bad – unfortunately I dropped the catch when it burst through my hands, which lightened the blow a little bit,” Sodhi said.

“I definitely woke up with a bit of a headache, but all the procedures in place have been taken, and Doc Cameron [team doctor Dr John Cameron] has ruled out the chance of concussion, which is great. Once everyone saw that I was alright, they reminded me that I dropped the catch. Bit of a knock to the head, bit of a headache initially, but thankfully the past 24 hours there has been no issues so far,” Ish Sodhi concluded.

New Zealand face Afghanistan in a must-win game

Kane Williamson & Co will undoubtedly be glad to have Ish Sodhi available for a critical game against an unpredictable Afghanistan. The wrist-spinner has been in superb form so far, snaring seven wickets in four games at 15.57.

They need to beat Afghanistan in their final to progress through to the semifinal along with Pakistan from Group 1.
