Ireland defeated two-time Champions West Indies by nine wickets played at Belivere Oval, Hobart on October 21. With this win, it was joy for Ireland as they qualified for the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
It was a dominating performance by Ireland openers as Paul Stirling and captain Andrew Balbirnie put enough pressure on the West Indies bowling lineup in the first six overs. They kept hitting boundaries with ease. Ireland’s openers added 73 runs for the opening wicket. Lorcan and Stirling did the job for Ireland winning the match by 9 wickets.
The Ireland bowlers did not allow the West Indies batters to score runs easily and picked wickets at regular intervals. Gareth Delany was the pick of bowlers for Ireland with three wickets giving away just 16 runs. He bowled with great control dismissing Evin Lewis, Nicolas Pooran, and Rovman Powell. Despite Brandon King 62 and cameo by Odean Smith, Ireland restricted West Indies to just 146 for 5.

Barry McCarthy got the initial breakthrough by dismissing Kyle Mayers cheaply. Simi Singh was bought into the attack and dismissed dangerous Charles to leave West Indies in trouble. Ireland restricted the run flow with disciplined bowling by all bowlers.
Paul Stirling scored an unbeaten 66 off 48 balls while Lorcan Tucker not out on 45 to help Ireland chase down the target with 15 balls to spare. For his match-winning spell of 3 for 16 in 4 overs, Gareth Delany was named the player of the match.
Ireland impressed with their style of play after losing the first match badly to Zimbabwe by 31 runs. Curtis Campher and Dockrell’s heroics in second match against Scotland helped them recover from a tough situation to win the match by 6 wickets. Both added unbeaten 119 runs for the fifth wicket.
Ireland made it into the Super 12 stage for the 2nd time only in their 7th T20 World Cup tournament.
Ireland book their tickets for Super 12s.
West Indies book their tickets for West Indies.

Incredible stuff @cricketireland, congratulations on making the Super 12s 👏🏽 Can't help but feel sad for WI though. WC won't be the same without the Caribbean flavour. #IREvsWI #T20worldcup22

Absolute legend @stirlo90. IMHO, he is the most underrated T20 player of his generation. Brings up another superb 50. @niallnobiobrien on a scale of 1-10 how happy are you right now?

WHAT a time for Paul Stirling to find his mojo. Very disappointing tournament for West Indies but this is just brilliant for Ireland. ☘️ #T20WorldCup

Well done, Ireland. That is another extraordinary result. But it is tinged with sadness at what has happened with the pioneers of T20 cricket. But c'est la vie.
