T20 World Cup Winning Coach Joins Mumbai Indians For IPL 2025

Paras Mhambrey has reportedly joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Mhambrey, who is credited with masterminding India’s impressive bowling performances during the World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024, is set to bring his expertise back to MI, a franchise he previously worked with as an assistant coach.

Paras Mhambrey’s Coaching Career

Although Mhambrey’s playing career for India was brief, with only two Test matches and three ODIs, he has built a solid reputation as a coach at various levels. Over the years, he has been instrumental in developing talent, working with India’s U19, India A, and several domestic teams like Bengal, Maharashtra, Baroda, and Vidarbha.

Mhambrey played a pivotal role in India’s success during the 2023 Cricket World Cup, where India’s bowlers consistently delivered match-winning performances. His strategies also contributed to India’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, despite the team’s overall struggles.

This is not Mhambrey’s first time working with Mumbai Indians. He previously served as an assistant coach, helping MI build one of the most successful franchises in IPL history.

MI’s coaching staff for IPL 2025

Paras Mhambrey will join a star-studded MI coaching staff that already includes legendary names like Lasith Malinga and TA Sekar, both of whom served as bowling coaches in IPL 2024. Kieron Pollard and Mark Boucher are also key figures in the MI setup. Mhambrey’s arrival adds more experience and skill to an already formidable coaching team.

MI struggles in IPL 2024

The 2024 IPL season was one to forget for Mumbai Indians. After replacing Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as captain, MI managed only four wins from 14 matches, finishing last in the league. The leadership change didn’t pay off, and the team’s bowling, in particular, failed to deliver when it mattered most.

Hardik Pandya, who had previously led Gujarat Titans to IPL success, struggled to replicate that magic with MI. The decision to replace Rohit Sharma with Pandya drew widespread criticism, and as MI’s fortunes plummeted, so did Pandya’s reputation as a captain. It became clear that a change was needed.

MI captaincy for IPL 2025

As MI gears up for the 2025 season, the biggest question on everyone’s mind is: Who will lead the team? There is speculation that Rohit Sharma, the franchise’s most successful captain, could return to the helm. However, there are also other contenders.

Another strong option is Suryakumar Yadav. Having established himself as India’s permanent T20I captain, Suryakumar’s leadership credentials are well recognized. His loyalty and consistent performances for MI over the years make him a viable candidate to take over as captain for IPL 2025.
