South Africa defeated the Indian team by 7 Wickets in the first T20I match in the ongoing 5- match T20I series between India and South Africa.  Wayne Parnell made his comeback in the T20I team of South Africa after a gap of almost 5 years. He delivered a good performance in his comeback T20I match.

Wayne Parnell last played for South Africa in 2017. After that he signed a Kolpak deal and moved to England. However his Kolpak deal came to an end in 2021. Duanne Oliver and Simon Harmer are other South African players who have made their comeback post Kolpak deal.

Wayne Parnell in his 4 overs conceded just 32 runs and picked up the crucial wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad. It was a great effort considering it was a high run scoring game. Parnell on instagram expressed his happiness of making a comeback in Proteas team. He posted a picture of him in South African jersey with the caption “1800+ days and felt the same”.

Several cricketers like Dale Steyn, Faf Du Plessis commented on this instagram post of Parnell. However the cheeky comment of Tabraiz Shamsi caught the attention of cricket fans. Shamsi commented, “The man who made his debut with W.G Grace. Good to have you back Parny”. In reply Parnell called Shamsi’s comment a naughty one with laughing emojis.

David Miller guides South Africa to victory in first T20I

Talking about the game , it was a high scoring game at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. South Africa successfully chased down the target of 212 runs with 5 balls remaining. David Miller played an impactful knock of 64 runs in 31 balls to take Proteas to victory. Rassie van der Dussen also played a brilliant knock of 75 runs in 46 balls.

David Miller grabbed man of the match award. Miller in the post match presentation said , “Obviously a lot of hard work has gone in over the last few years understanding my game a lot better. Belief (one thing that has transformed his career). Understanding winning more games and more consistency gives you more belief. I am pretty open to bat anywhere. Just want to make a difference.”
