Sunrisers Hyderabad won the IPL 2020 Eliminator by six wickets against RCB in Abu Dhabi on Friday. In the process, they eliminate Bangalore out of the tournament and will face Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier on Sunday in Abu Dhabi. The winner of that game will face Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, November 10 in the IPL 2020 final in Dubai. More about the IPL 2020 Eliminator match report in detail below.

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to field first in this knockout game. Virat Kohli was dismissed for just six after he decided to open the batting. Aaron Finch scored a fighting 32 off 30 balls as he was facing difficulties to cope up with the conditions. Once he was dismissed, AB De Villiers waged a long battle with the bat. He scored 56 off 43 balls to take RCB beyond the 130-mark. They finally scored 131 in their 20 overs.

The RCB spinners made the chase tough for the SRH batsmen. Sreevats Goswami was out for a duck, while David Warner fell to a controversial decision from the on-field umpire. RCB spinners tied don the SRH batsmen in the middle overs. Manish Pandey scored 24 before he was dismissed in the ninth over. With Kane Williamson at the other end, Windies skipper Jason Holder joined him at the other end. After picking three wickets with the ball, he first negated the threat of the RCB spinners and got the scoreboard going for SRH. He scored 24 off 20 balls and along with Williamson (50) added an unbeaten 65 to take SRH to a six-wicket victory. In between, the experienced duo, negated the threat of the RCB spinners.

What Was the Turning Point in The Game?

The unbeaten 65-run stand between Holder and Williamson ultimately became the turning point as it was this stand that took the team to a win.

The Kiwi skipper for his unbeaten 50 was awarded the Man of the Match. He donned the finisher’s role beautifully in the last four matches.

“It was never going to be easy against a class side like RCB. The surface was a little tricky and chasing anything on it wasn’t easy. It was a challenge for us to restrict them to that kind of a total. They also had two world-class spinners. We did well to go through their spells without losing too many wickets. Batting at 4 can vary a lot and becomes surface dependent. A few shots from Jason helped. The guys have been fighting hard. He(Holder) is cooler than me. The all-rounder role in the team has been well held by him” said Williamson after taking his team to victory.

Ahead of the IPL 2020 Eliminator clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad, former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has said that SRH are ahead on momentum. SRH are coming into this game by beating Mumbai Indians in their last league game by 10 wickets, while RCB got through to the playoffs on the back of four back to back losses.

Also, RCB have won just two of their four games in Abu Dhabi. On the other hand, Abu Dhabi has been a very good venue for SRH. They have played three, won two. Meanwhile, Ojha has said that the team who handles the pressure well win the game, also keeping SRH ahead on momentum.

“I think both are very good at handling the pressure. If you look at the stats, RCB has lost four games but if you look at SRH, they have been winning. And I tell you it’s all about the momentum you get. I think if you talk about momentum it’s SRH which has a little bit of edge over RCB,” Pragyan Ojha told Sports Today.

SRH Ahead on Momentum -Pragyan Ojha

Pragyan Ojha further said that whoever uses the conditions of Abu Dhabi better in the game will win the game on the night. While SRH have two out of their three games wt this venue, Bangalore have won two and lost two.

“Abu Dhabi has been a very good venue for SRH. They have played three, won two. And RCB, it’s been fifty-fifty as they have lost two and won two. Whoever uses the conditions well, whoever reads the wicket and the dimensions well will have an advantage,” Ojha added.

Pragyan Ojha further said that RCB needs to take some bold decisions and make Virat Kohli open with Aaron Finch to start their innings quickly. It will be an interesting matchup between both sides as the winner will face Delhi Capitals in the Qualifier 2 on Sunday.

“RCB have to take some bold decisions. Virat Kohli can open and get Aaron Finch in the middle. It gives them a solid boost,” Ojha concluded saying.

The IPL 2020 Eliminator will see a repeat of the 2016 finalists taking on each other, in a knockout contest. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore finished as the third and the fourth team in the points table and hence will be competing in the eliminator. The match will be played in Abu Dhabi, where both teams have fared well earlier in the competition. The loser of this game will be knocked out from the tournament, while the winner will play in the second qualifier on Sunday, November 08.

Royal Challengers Bangalore get into this game on the back of a loss against Delhi Capitals. More importantly, they lost four on the bounce to get into the playoffs. Luck played a big role in helping Virat Kohli’s men reach the playoffs. Now having reached there they play straight in the Eliminator and stand a chance to get themselves eliminated. They face a team in Sunrisers Hyderabad who have won three matches to get into the playoffs.

Confidence wise they are flying, while RCB are still looking for a winning combination. Losing four matches also means that they are not very sure of picking the right squad for this knockout contest. RCB’s chance to cash in the contest lies at the top. If Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers get going, RCB will be in the contest or else not. Their bowling also largely depends on the performance of Yuzvendra Chahal. If Navdeep Saini and Chris Morris can provide him the adequate throw a challenge to the Sunrisers or else not.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, come into this contest, on the back of three back to back wins. The injection of Wriddhiman Saha has been a masterstroke by the management. He has formed quite a pairing with skipper David Warner, keeping the England international Jonny Bairstow on the bench.

Saha’s inclusion has also helped Kane Williamson to be slotted in the middle-order adding more depth to the line-up. Williamson is a bank for Warner from whom returns are almost guaranteed if they lose early wickets. Manish Pandey’s attacking approach at number three has been faring well for the Sunrisers Hyderabad so far.

With the ball, Sandeep Sharma has been a revelation. He has been taking wickets at the top and limiting the damage in the back end. With two spinners Rashid Khan and Shahbaz Nadeem, Sunrisers Hyderabad are controlling the middle overs. This has been their formulae in the last few games and they would like to follow the same in the eliminator as well.

Head to Head: Ahead of IPL 2020 Eliminator

Out of the 17 games played between both sides, Sunrisers Hyderabad has won nine, while RCB seven. Both teams have won one game each in IPL 2020.

Pitch & Weather Conditions

The toss at Abu Dhabi will be significant once more with the last five fixtures all having won by the chasing team. Dew is setting in pretty early in the last few games, as early as the second half of the first innings. SRH won their last two games chasing, something which they will have at the back of their mind if they win the toss. The dew factor will be playing on the minds of both the captains.

Team News

Navdeep Saini has recovered from his hand injury and is likely to return. Meanwhile, RCB is sweating over Chris Morris’s hamstring injury and their inconsistent middle-order. While Udana may make way for Moeen Ali who gives them options with bat and ball, they would ideally hope Morris recovers on time.

Sunrisers Hyderabad having beaten Mumbai Indians by 10 wickets in their last game would not like to change anything about their playing XI.
