In an exclusive press conference, Pakistan Cricket Board chief Najam Sethi releases a shocking statement claiming ‘Pakistan Super League is better than the Indian Premier League.

Pakistan Super League 2023 concluded after the final match taking place between the Multan Sultan and Lahore Qalandars, where the Lahore Qalandars defeated Multan Sultan by 1 run and lift the trophy.

PCB chief Najam Sethi shockingly revealed that the PSL received much more viewership than the IPL. PSL viewership reached 150 million compared to the 130 million viewership of IPL.

Najam Sethi is been known for making controversial statements across cricket matches and tournaments, and this time is no different than the others, as his claims are irrational with no solid justifications and facts.

The PSL winning team won a whopping amount of 3.4 crore rupees

Lahore Qalandars won their 2nd title in Pakistan Super League 2023. They became the first side to retain their title in the PSL. On the contrary, the IPL 2022 winner Gujarat Titans won a sum of 20 INR crore rupees for winning the trophy.

The final match of PSL was dramatic and kept the viewers on the edge of their seats, as batting first Lahore Qalandars scored 200 runs in the 20 overs they batted with the required run rate of 10.01 per over for the opposition.

Abdullah Shafique, and Shaheen Afridi, shines in the batting as Shafique scored 65 runs off 40 balls with a strike rate of 162.5 and Shaheen Afridi scored 44 runs in just 15 balls with a strike rate of 293.3

On the other hand, Multan Sultans while chasing started off a decent track with good partnerships between Mohammad Rizwan, and Rilee Rossouw as they kept the side in the match with their terrific knocks of 34, and 52 runs respectively.

Shaheen Afridi with his all-around performance was the man of the match and he played a critical role in the match and turned it in his team’s favour.

All-rounder Kieron Pollard is known for his breathtaking efforts in the field. He pulled off another stunner during the 2023 Pakistan Super League match for the Multan Sultans on Wednesday, February 22 against the Karachi Kings. Pollard’s catch to send back Shoaib Malik left the players, experts, and fans amazed.

The Karachi Kings were chasing 197 runs in the game. They got off to a great start, with James Vince and Matthew Wade taking on the bowlers. The Imad Wasim-led team raced to 72 runs in around six overs. However, wickets fell in quick succession pushing them to the backfoot. Shoaib Malik tried to take the game deep, but a terrific effort from Pollard ended his less than run-a-ball knock.

In the seventeenth over, Abbas Afridi bowled a full delivery on the stumps. Malik tried to loft it but did not get the timing correct. The ball hit the toe end of the bat, and Pollard ran in from long-on to complete an outstanding catch. He dived to perfecting holding onto a stunner. Shoaib Malik had to walk back for thirteen runs for nineteen deliveries.

Abbas Afridi was brought on to bowl the final over by Mohammad Rizwan. Imad slammed Afridi for a six on the first delivery of the over, which turned out to be a no-ball. He took a run on the free hit, followed by a wide and another run.

Ben Cutting smashed another six in the over, and the target was reduced to seven runs from four deliveries. Just when the Karachi Kings looked to have almost sealed the game, Abbas bowled a dot delivery and took a wicket off the next. Cutting was dismissed for twelve runs. Needing six off the last ball to win the game, Imad Wasim failed to get the power behind the shot and ended up getting a single. Multan Sultans won the game by three runs.

Earlier, Multan Sultans skipper Mohammad Rizwan slammed a century, while Shan Masood scored a fifty. This was their fourth win of the tournament. They are leading in the points table with eight points after five games.

The much-anticipated final of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021) will see Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans go up against each other on June 24 (Thursday) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. While Zalmi has already won the title once in 2017, Sultans will be desperate to put a hand on the trophy this time around.

Peshawar Zalmi came into the final beating Karachi Kings in Eliminator and then thumping Islamabad United in the second qualifier. They will bank on their skipper Wahab Riaz, who has accounted for 18 wickets in the tournament. Although Peshawar will enter the summit clash as the underdogs, they certainly have all the elements to win their second PSL title.

On the other hand, Multan Sultans dominated the proceedings in the second half of PSL 2021 in the UAE. Their success have mostly revolved around their bowling led by Shahnawaz Dhani. The experience of Imran Tahir and Sohail Tanvir have also come in handy for the side while Mohammad Rizwan has led the batting unit.

All in all, it will be a cracker of a game at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and we are in for a thrilling finish of PSL 2021.

Match 30 of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 will see Islamabad United take on the Multan Sultans at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium on June 19 (Saturday).

Multan Sultans are yet to confirm a place in the top-four at the time of writing. Although they are unbeaten in the UAE leg so far, Multan have a tough task of beating Islamabad on Saturday. Although they will start the game as underdogs, their resourceful bowling attack will be key to their fortunes in their bid for a top-four finish in the final league game of PSL 2021.

Islamabad United are already in the PSL playoffs and will look to sustain their momentum ahead of the knockout clash. Although they missed the services of Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf, Islamabad were able to post the highest score in PSL history en route to beating Peshawar Zalmi.

With Usman Khawaja also striking form at the top of the order, Islamabad are the clear favourites heading into this game.

Match Details

Date and Time: 19th June 2021, at 11:30 PM IST

Venue: Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Pitch Report

With this being the second PSL game of the day, the pitch could be on the slower side, with variations being key. Although both the pacers and spinners should get the ball to talk, the batsmen should be able to play their shots freely.

Dew could play a factor, with both teams likely to prefer chasing upon winning the toss. Although 170-180 should be a good total at the venue, both teams are capable of breaching the par score with ease.

Match 28 of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 has the Multan Sultans taking on the Lahore Qalandars at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Lahore Qalandars have blown hot and cold in the second leg. But they are still in control of the situation as far as their PSL playoff hopes are concerned. Although their bowlers have been on the money so far, the Qalandars will need their experienced batsmen Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez to step up with a possible place in the top-two on offer.

On the other hand, Multan Sultans are the team to beat in this UAE leg of their PSL campaign with three wins in three games. Riding on the exploits of Mohammad Rizwan, the Sultans’ batting unit delivered the goods when called upon.

However, credit needs to be given to their resourceful bowling attack that has stifled opponents for runs in the middle overs. The onus will be on Imran Tahir and Shahnawaz Dhani once again as they look to seal a place in the PSL top-four.

Match Details

Match: Multan Sultans vs Lahore Qalandars, Match 28, PSL 2021

Date and Time: 18th June 2021, at 9:30 PM IST

Venue: Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Jayed

Pitch Report

With this being a used pitch, runs may be hard to come by for the batsmen as the game progresses. The bowlers should continue to get extra swing and bounce early on, keeping the batsmen on their toes. While the batters will target the square boundaries more, they will need to be wary of the spinners, who should get the ball to skid on under the lights.

Wickets in hand will be crucial for either side, with 160 being a competitive total at the venue. Both teams will look to chase upon winning the toss, given the dew factor in the second innings of the game.

Match 25 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 has Multan Sultans taking on Quetta Gladiators at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on June 16 (Wednesday).

Quetta Gladiators, are all but out of the reckoning for a playoff spot with just one win in seven PSL 2021 games at the time of writing. Their overseas stars Faf du Plessis and Andre Russell had to be replaced during the games against Peshwar Zalmi and Islamabad United due to concussions, leaving Quetta light on both batting and bowling fronts.

However, they are still a force to be reckoned with under the leadership of Sarfaraz Ahmed, who is in the midst of a stellar PSL season with the bat.

Multan Sultans are arguably one of the teams to beat in the UAE leg of the PSL with two wins in two games. Riding on the exploits of captain Mohammad Rizwan, the Sultans are in the mix for a top-four finish. Despite missing out on Chris Lynn and James Vince from the first phase, Multan Sultans have coped well with the likes of Shahnawaz Dhani and Imran Tahir impressing with the ball.

Match Details

Match: Multan Sultans vs Quetta Gladiators, Match 25

Date and Time: 16th June 2021, at 9:30 PM IST

Venue: Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Pitch Report

After a few low-scoring PSL 2021 games in the early part of the UAE leg, the pitch is beginning to show its true colors, with the ball skidding fairly well on to the bat. Although there is some swing on offer for the pacers, the dew factor has gone against the bowlers, making it difficult for them to execute their skills.

Both teams will look to chase upon winning the toss, with 170 being par at the venue.

The second of Sunday’s doubleheader in PSL 2021 will see Multan Sultans lock horns with Peshawar Zalmi at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on June 13 (Sunday).

Peshawar Zalmi have blown hot and cold in PSL 2021 so far. Although they had Lahore down for the count in the previous game, Peshawar were taken to the cleaners by Ben Dunk and Tim David. They will be itching to get back into form as soon as possible as the PSL 2021 points table slowly takes shape.

On the other hand, Multan Sultans, who are still in contention for a top-four finish, had a great start to the UAE leg of their PSL 2021 campaign with a win over Karachi Kings. Their strength lies in their batting unit, with the likes of Rilee Rossouw and Mohammad Rizwan impressing earlier in the week.

With Imran Tahir leading the bowling attack impeccably, the Multan Sultans will fancy their chances of yet another win on Sunday.

After a cracking start to the second phase of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021), Multan Sultans lock horns with Karachi Kings in match 16 on June 10 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Karachi Kings head into the second half of the PSL with a revamped squad. They don’t boast the same balance they did in the first half due to the absence of Dan Christian and Mohammad Nabi. However, they have added some firepower to the side in the form of Martin Guptill and Thisara Perera. With Babar Azam and Mohammad Amir set to unleash upon the PSL, the Kings are well-equipped ahead of the restart.

As for their opponents, the Multan Sultans have the tough task of getting into the playoffs, having lost four of their first five PSL 2021 games. However, they have made changes to their squad, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Shimron Hetmyer complementing Mohammad Rizwan’s consistency in the batting unit.

With Imran Tahir set to lead the bowling attack, the Sultans will fancy their chances of a win on Thursday. Although they will start the game as slight underdogs, the Sultans’ depth and superior balance hold them in good stead.

Multan Sultans have appointed Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan as their skipper for the upcoming PSL 2021. He has replaced veteran batsman Shan Masood as the captain of Multan-based franchise for the sixth-edition of the franchise-based league.

Incidentally, Multan picked Mohammad Rizwan, who was plying his trade for Karachi Kings, in the PSL 2021 draft. However, Rizwan failed to cement his berth in Karachi Kings’ playing eleven during the unsuccessful stint. Last year, he featured in only two matches and got to face just one ball although Karachi Kings went on to win the tournament.

Rizwan has been in red-hot form in international cricket and recently scored his maiden T20 hundred during the just-concluded three-match T20 series against South Africa. He will hope to keep up the good run in PSL 2021 and take Multan Sultans to the title, after bowing out from the playoffs last season.

“Mohammad Rizwan has shown exemplary leadership qualities with the Pakistan team as well as with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Domestic tournaments,” said Multan Sultans owner Alamgir Khan Tareen. “We are excited to have him lead our team for the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League,” he added.

Looking forward to playing my part for Multan Sultans – Mohammad Rizwan

Excited over the new development, Mohammad Rizwan is looking forward to playing his part for Multan Sultans in PSL 2021. Rizwan further added that he will aspire to get better this time and work with the senior players such as Shahid Afridi, Shan Masood, and Sohail Tanvir.

“I have understood the innovative approach the franchise applied last season and am looking forward to playing my part this year,” said Mohammad Rizwan.

The sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League will commence on February 20 with all matches being played in Karachi and Lahore. Multan Sultans will open their campaign against Lahore Qalandars on February 21.
