Australia named a strong power-hitting squad for the 3-match T20I series against West Indies to be played at home. This marks an ideal preparation for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup that will be played in the West Indies and the United States of America this year.

Mitchell Marsh has been named as the captain for this series. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Steve Smith have been rested for the series as they are likely to be included in the T20I series against New Zealand in New Zealand that will begin in late February.

They have not named a permanent captain in T20I since the retirement of Aaron Finch in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Aussies played only two T20I series as Marsh led to whitewash over South Africa by 3-0 last year and then lost the series against India by 1-4 with Matthew Wade leading an inexperienced team.

The main inclusion will be David Warner, Marcus Stoinis, and Tim David. All of them need to return from the franchise duties and play 3 T20I matches against the West Indies side.

David Warner

“I think we will decide on that post the New Zealand series,” Bailey said. “New Zealand will be the time when Andrew jumps back in so it’s a good chance to see how those two works together. Confident that’ll work, but we just haven’t seen it yet. That’s the way that’s tracking. Mitch will get the opportunity here and likely to get the opportunity in New Zealand as well.”

Australia announced a power-hitting squad

The Australian team includes top-quality power-hitters including Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, and David Warner who can change the course of the game with their power-hitting.

The bowling department looks strong with the likes of Nathan Ellis, Jason Behrendroff, Sean Abbott, and Adam Zampa. Josh Hazlewood also returns to the T20I squad after resting from the ODI series against West Indies. He will not feature in the IPL 2024 this time and 3 matches each against West Indies and New Zealand would be an ideal preparation for Josh Hazlewood to be in contention for T20 WC 2024.

Australia will play 3 T20I matches starting on 9th February at Hobart, the second one will be played at Adelaide Oval on the 11th and the final one to be played at Perth on the 13th.

Australia’s T20I squad for series against West Indies:

Travis Head, David Warner, Matthew Short, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh (C), Tim David, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Matthew Wade, Sean Abbott, Jason Behrendroff, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

Australia named a 13-member squad for the upcoming 3-match One-day International series against West Indies. The major news included that Steve Smith would lead the side in the absence of Pat Cummins. Pat Cummins has been rested keeping his workload during the 3-match Test series against Pakistan and will play 2 more Test matches against West Indies starting from 17th January 2024.

The pace trio of Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins has been rested due to the heavy workload that they did during the 3 test matches against Pakistan and the upcoming 2 test matches against the West Indies.

“It is a little over 12 months until the Champions Trophy and further opportunities for the likes of Aaron Hardie, Matt Short, Jhye Richardson, and Nathan Ellis will be valuable both to our ongoing improvement as a team and also further their personal experiences in ODI cricket,” national selector George Bailey said.

Marcus Stoinis has been rested for the series. The batting unit looks strong with the likes of Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, and Matthew Short. Short has been selected due to his performance in BBL 13.

The pace bowling department comprises of Jhye Richardson, Lance Morris, Aaron Hardie, Sean Abbott, and Nathan Ellis. Adam Zampa is the only specialist spinner in the squad while Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Short would be part-time spinners.

The first One-day international will be played on 2nd February at Melbourne Cricket Ground, MCG, followed by the 2nd ODI match at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG on 4th February. The third and final ODI match will take place on 6th February at Maunka Oval, Canberra. It promises to be an exciting series as Australia will see the youngsters perform and stake a claim in the squad for upcoming tournaments.

After a thrilling 2-wicket win in the first T20I, India and Australia are set to lock horns in the 2nd match of the series to be played at Trivandrum on 26th November 2023. It was a high-scoring affair at Vizag where Australia posted 208 for 3 thanks to Josh Inglis’s century and Smith’s half-century. Despite their efforts, the bowlers could not contain and lost on the final delivery.

On the other hand, India begins the series on a winning note. The bowling looked ordinary as they conceded 208. Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Rinku Singh’s calmness helped India register a 2-wicket win on the last ball.

India’s victory over Australia helped them to post their 16th win in T20I format. They would be looking to prove their worth with youngsters.

In a breathtaking display of fielding prowess, Nathan Ellis stunned both players and spectators alike with an astounding catch taken at short fine leg in The Hundred 2023. The sheer audacity and precision of the catch left everyone in awe, solidifying his reputation as one of the finest fielders in the game.

The incident unfolded during a high-stakes cricket match, where every run and every wicket carried immense significance. The batsman, hoping to squeeze a single, flicked the ball off his pads with remarkable timing. The ball seemed destined for the boundary, but fate had other plans. Nathan Ellis, stationed at short fine leg, reacted with lightning speed as the ball rocketed towards him.

What followed was nothing short of spectacular. With impeccable anticipation and cat-like reflexes, Ellis jumped into the air, his body fully extended.

Watch here:

The crowd collectively held their breath as time seemed to freeze, watching the ball sail perilously close to the boundary rope. Just when it appeared all hope was lost, Nathan Ellis plucked the ball out of the air, defying gravity and logic.

The catch itself was a masterclass in fielding technique. Ellis maintained his composure as he twisted his body mid-air, ensuring he remained within the field of play while securing the ball. The impact of his landing was cushioned by a seamless roll, preserving the integrity of the catch and preventing the ball from slipping out of his grasp. The collective gasp from the audience was followed by a deafening roar of appreciation.

Such moments of brilliance are a testament to the hours of training and dedication that players like Nathan Ellis invest in their craft. The catch not only showcased Ellis’s exceptional athleticism but also underscored the crucial role fielding plays in the modern game. In an era where matches are often decided by the finest of margins, every run saved can be as valuable as a run scored.

Ellis’s blinder at short fine leg will undoubtedly be replayed countless times in the years to come, serving as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers and a reminder of the magic that can unfold on the field. It was a fleeting moment that encapsulated the essence of sportsmanship — the relentless pursuit of excellence, the joy of competition, and the ability to create unforgettable memories.

Hasaranga’s addition to the RCB squad has been nothing short of a fairy tale story. He had a brilliant white-ball series against India recently picking up nine wickets in the T20I series including four in the final. He proved to be a difficult bowler for the Indian batsmen to read which is why he became successful.

The conditions in UAE will be tailor-made for his kind of bowling. We saw how the pitch started spinning once it dried up in the second half of IPL 2020. With Yuzvendra Chahal being their specialist spinner, Hasaranga can be an ideal foil for him with the cricketing world still not having seen much of him. The Lankan spinner also expressed his admiration for the league and his rejoice in finally being a part of it.

2) Dushmantha Chameera-RCB

Chameera is the second player to be signed up by RCB in place of Daniel Sams. The Lankan pacer has enough skill to work with which can be critical in the Arab nation. With Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel, Chameera can be an ideal addition as it also maintains the variety in the pace attack.

3) Glenn Phillips-RR

Garton is a promising young all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls left arm. George plays his domestic cricket for Sussex. He is a product of English U-19 cricket having played in the 2016 World Cup in Bangladesh. He was also called as a short-term cover ahead of the first 2017-18 Ashes Test.

Nathan Ellis is one of the two players roped in by Punjab Kings ahead of the UAE leg. He replaces Riley Meredith in the squad who has confirmed his unavailability for the remaining half of the tournament.

Ellis took a hat-trick on his T20I debut for Bangladesh. He also has been drafted in Australia’s T20I squad as a travelling reserve. Punjab won the race as two other franchises were keen to rope in the Australian youngster.

Rashid completes the list of players who will making their IPL debut in UAE. The veteran England pacer replaced Jhye Richardson in the squad who will not be playing the UAE leg.
