Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal suffered a severe heart attack while playing in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match on Monday. Representing Mohammedan Sporting Club, Tamim was playing against Shinepukur Cricket Club at the BKSP ground in Savar, near Dhaka.
During the first innings, soon after the toss, Tamim began experiencing chest discomfort. Initially, there were plans to airlift him to Dhaka by helicopter for advanced medical care. However, due to complications, he could not be flown and was instead taken to Fazilatunnesa Hospital in Savar for immediate treatment.
Medical Emergency and Immediate Response
Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirmed that Tamim underwent initial checks at a local hospital where mild heart irregularities were detected. However, his condition worsened on the way to the helipad, causing severe chest pain, which led to his immediate transfer back to the hospital.
Upon further examination, doctors confirmed that Tamim had suffered a massive heart attack. Dr. Chowdhury stated, “It is a challenging time for all of us. He is currently under close observation, and the medical team is doing everything possible to aid his recovery.”
Family and Medical Team Monitoring Situation
Tamim’s family members are traveling to Savar to be with him during this difficult time. The medical team at Fazilatunnesa Hospital is closely monitoring his condition and providing necessary treatment. The cricketing community, along with fans, is deeply concerned about Tamim’s health.
His sudden illness has shocked the Bangladesh cricket fraternity, and everyone is hopeful for his quick recovery. As of now, Tamim remains under observation, with doctors taking all possible measures to stabilize his condition.
