Team India Fined For Slow Over-Rate In Second T20I Against England

Virat Kohli’s Team India was fined for slow over-rate in the second T20I against England in Ahmedabad. India won the game by seven wickets but not before they were penalised for taking things slow with th ball and in the field. India won the game and levelled the series 1-1 after losing the first game. Meanwhile, ICC Match Referee Javagal Srinath imposed the sanction after Virat Kohli’s side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

On-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and KN Ananthapadmanabhan, and third umpire Virender Sharma leveled the charge. Virat Kohli accepted the charges and pleaded guilty for not being able to keep upto the time.

Team India Fined For Slow Over-Rate

As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Meanwhile, Team India’s skipper was over the moon after he hit back form with an unbeaten 73. Making his T20I debut, Ishan Kishan scored 56 off 32 balls. The game was all about Kohli and Kishan making the England bowlers toil hard for picking up wickets.

In the process, Indian skipper Kohli became the first batsman to score 3000 T20I runs. He broke several other records in a night to remember for him personally.

Batting first, England scored 164/6 with contributions from Jason Roy (46) at the top and Eoin Morgan (28) and Ben Stokes (24) in the middle order.

In response, a 94-run stand between Kishan & Kohli set up the game for India as Kohli anchored India’s chase and finished it with a six. The remaining three matches are due to be played at the same venue on March 16, 18 and 20.
