Shikhar Dhawan has been one of the prospects for India. Known as the “Man of big tournaments” he never failed to create a scorecard impact in the ICC tournaments since 2013. Though the Indian opener had a lean patch towards the end of 2016, his brilliance since the ICC Champions trophy 2017 bagged him the A+ contract.
The Sunrisers opener revealed the secret behind his trademark celebration that he does after taking a catch. He said that the game of kabaddi has inspired him to celebrate a bit different. He concealed all his actions in the show “breakfast with champions” hosted by Gaurav Kapoor.
Apart from the kabaddiesque celebration, Dhawan has been impressing with two more on-field antics,Moustache swag and the Daddy “v”. While the former one was famous during the Australian tours the latter grabbed attention during the tour to Srilanka where he was adjudged the Man of the series.
Fondly called “Gabbar”, Dhawan also took some time to have a say on his nickname. To boost the confidence on the field Dhawan used to utter the famous dialogue from the movie Sholay which goes like “Bahut yaarana lagta hai”. In the lover this specific statement was said by Amjad Khan known for his character “Gabbar Singh”.
“No one calls me Shikhar, everyone calls me “Gabbar”. I got the name during a Ranji match, Vijay Dahiya bhaiya had given me the name,” Dhawan said.
Shikhar Dhawan will now be a part of the one-off test against Afghanistan as well as the limited overs overseas tours of England and Ireland. It will be really a test of “patience” at the crease for the big man to maintain his form till the ICC World cup next year.
