Team India and Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was reportedly taken to hospital after suffering from acute gastroenteritis following Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 encounter against Rajasthan in Pune on Tuesday, December 16. As per reports, the left-handed batter experienced severe stomach cramps that worsened after the match, prompting immediate medical attention. He was administered IV medication and later advised complete rest by doctors.

Jaiswal had featured in a high-scoring contest at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, where Mumbai were chasing a massive total of 217. Mumbai complete successful chase despite early setback

Despite Jaiswal’s early dismissal, Mumbai produced a strong batting performance to successfully chase down the daunting target. The team crossed the finish line with three wickets in hand and more than an over remaining, showcasing impressive depth in their batting lineup. Ajinkya Rahane led from the front with a composed unbeaten knock of 72 off 41 balls, anchoring the innings under pressure.

Sarfaraz Khan provided explosive support, smashing 73 runs off just 22 deliveries, completely shifting the momentum in Mumbai’s favour. Atharva Ankolekar also played a crucial cameo, scoring 26 runs from only nine balls to ensure there were no late hiccups. Their collective effort helped Mumbai seal a memorable win despite the early concern surrounding Jaiswal’s health.

Recent International Heroics And Future Prospects

Away from the domestic circuit, Jaiswal has been in fine form at the international level. In Team India’s most recent ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam on December 6, the young opener delivered a standout performance. He scored a magnificent unbeaten 116, guiding India to a comfortable chase of 271. Jaiswal also stitched together a commanding 155-run opening partnership with Rohit Sharma, who contributed 75 runs, laying the foundation for a dominant nine-wicket victory.

Looking ahead, the Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer could be considered for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand starting January 11. However, his inclusion in the playing eleven appears uncertain, with regular captain Shubman Gill expected to return to the side.
