Team India skipper Virat Kohli has been named as one of Time magazine”s 100 most influential people of 2018 following back to back 2 great years in international cricket and an extraordinary rise to prominence in the cricket world.
Four Indians who have made the cut in 2018 for the prestigious TIME magazine”s 100 most influential people include Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, Indian Cricket Team captain Virat Kohli, Ola co-founder Bhavish Aggarwal and Microsoft”s Indian-born CEO Satya Nadella.
Kohli who is regarded as the world”s best batsman by many had a remarkable run of form in 2017 where he scored the third-most runs in history across all three formats for a calendar year; his 2,818 runs, which included 11 hundred, sits only behind Kumar Sangakkara (2014) and Ricky Ponting (2005).
Describing the type of people that usually make it to the list, the magazine said, “TIME”s annual list of the world”s most influential people is a designation of individuals whose time, in our estimation, is now.”
Indian cricketing legend often described GOD of cricket Sachin Tendulkar wrote describing Kohli, “hunger for runs and consistency. Has been remarkable and has become the hallmark of his game.”
Among the six sportspeople to make the prestigious list, Kohli sits alongside with some giants of sports including Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer, American quartet Kevin Durant (basketball), Chloe Kim (snowboarding), Adam Rippon (figure skating) and JJ Watt (American football).
Sachin further went on to describe Kohli”s attitude and hunger or runs by recalling the first occasion he met with him during Virat”s u19 days.
“That was the first time I watched this young, passionate player lead India. Today, Virat Kohli is a household name and a champion in cricket. Even back then, his hunger for runs and consistency was remarkable, something that has become the hallmark of his game,”
Kohli also acknowledged this huge achievement and took to Twitter to thank Sachin for his kind words and share his feelings after the achievement.
