Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to return to competitive cricket in the T20I series against Ireland, in August this year. He has been out of action for several months, since the T20I series in 2022 against Australia. The spearhead missed the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and also the World Test Championship final.

According to a report by News18 CricketNext, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to return to Team India for the Ireland series. He is getting better every day, marching on to attain full fitness. Earlier this year, he underwent back surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand. Following the surgery, he went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for his rehab.

“Jasprit Bumrah is looking very good for the Ireland series in August this year. It will be a big boost to the Indian cricket team and will also allow Bumrah time in the middle after the long injury lay-off. If everything stays on course, a Bumrah at peak fitness is likely to take the field,” said a source to News18 CricketNext.

Earlier this month, Dinesh Karthik too expressed the possibility of Jasprit Bumrah making a comeback in the Ireland series. India is scheduled to tour Ireland for three-match T20Is in August. Bumrah’s comeback in the series will prove to be a major boost for Team India ahead of the Asia Cup and the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

Jasprit Bumrah is undergoing his rehab under the watchful eyes of National Cricket Academy (NCA) head VVS Laxman. He is also being looked after by Nitin Patel, the head of the Sports Science and Medicine department. The pacer will be crucial for Team India with a couple of major events lined up this year.

“Nitin Patel and Rajnikanth have been working very closely with Bumrah and keeping him on track during the rehab period at the NCA. Both are very experienced and don’t want to take any chance with Bumrah in what is a very crucial white-ball year and also the start of the new World Test Championship cycle,” said the official to News18 CricketNext.
