Team India To Leave For UK On June 2, Family Members Likely To Accompany Players: Reports

As reported by PTI, Team India are expected to leave for the UK on June 2 for the World Test Championship and the England Test series later on. The BCCI announced a jumbo squad on May 7 which included some players who made a comeback to the Test squad while some interesting omission as well.

The BCCI is still carrying out negotiations regarding the duration of 10 days of soft quarantine (training allowed) for Team India players after reaching the UK where they will be based for three and half months.

“Indian team will have eight days of hard quarantine (confined to hotel rooms) in India with mandatory negative RT-PCR reports on second, fourth and seventh day required to board the flight,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is also trying to get relaxations on mandatory quarantine after reaching the UK. They will be on a 10-day quarantine which the BCCI is trying to lessen down.

BCCI Trying to Lessen Team India’s Mandatory Quarantine In The UK

“Since we have a bubble to bubble transfer, it needs to be seen if the duration of the 10-day quarantine can be reduced a bit. However players during soft quarantine can go for training. In any case, Hotel Hilton where the teams will be put up in Southampton, is a part of the Ageas Bowl property,” the source added.

In case it’s a 10-day quarantine, Team India players will be allowed to move around the city from June 13 while the WTC final against New Zealand will start on June 18.

BCCI Likely To Allow WAGS On This Trip

Meanwhile, the BCCI are taking over if the family members of the cricketers can also be allowed to join them in this trip. Since its a long trip, the BCCI is likely to allow the WAGS on this trip as well.

However, it is still not clear whether the WAGS and children will join from the start of the tour or come after the WTC final when there is a substantial gap of more than a month before the start of the Test series on August 4.
