Manoj Tiwary has come up with a remarkable suggestion regarding the Indian team selection meetings. Tiwary so far has only represented India in 12 ODI and three T20I matches in his career. Despite scoring an ODI century, the right-handed batsman from Bengal wasn’t given a long rope by selectors in the squad.
The 34-year-old now firmly believes that the selection meeting of team India should be broadcasted live. He continued that everyone should be aware that on which grounds a selector is choosing a player in the squad. If this is done in the near future than a player will know the reasons why he was overlooked by the selection committee.
“Team selections should be aired live so that everyone can see which selector is taking which player’s name on which grounds. It will help us assess if the selection is fair or not. Normally, what happens is that when we players ask the selectors about why we were ignored, they tend to blame each other for it. So, to make things clear, it’s necessary that the selection meeting is telecast live,” Tiwary said during an Instagram chat with ABP live.
Team selections should be live – Manoj Tiwary
Talking about the Indian Premier League (IPL), Tiwary stated that the Indian batsman should be given preference to a foreign batsman in the T20 league. The right-handed batsman reckoned that the Indian players are well equipped than the overseas players as they know how to bat on Indian pitches.
“The Indian batsmen need to bat in the top order in the IPL. I’m not against foreign players, but some of them aren’t used to our pitches, take the opening slot and do well. They get used to playing in the Indian conditions. If you notice, due to the IPL, most of them have become so good against spin, which they couldn’t tackle earlier, that it becomes difficult to dismiss them in the ICC tournaments.”
He added, “We need to think about it, and it should be planned accordingly. Every team has four overseas players who’re all generally experienced. Even if they come down the order, they can handle that pressure. Ultimately, you’ve to provide the Indian players with better opportunities to excel at the top”.
Manoj Tiwary, who has over the years played for several franchises in the IPL pointed the foreign players utilize the experience of the league in international cricket. Usually, the teams prefer to play two batsmen and two bowlers as the four overseas players in the T20 league.
“Right now, very few teams play the Indian batsmen in the top four in the IPL. Most of the teams have foreigners in the top order, and they’re getting used to our conditions, our bowlers, and our spin. They then utilize that experience to play us well in the ICC tournaments,” concluded Tiwary.
