Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been part of the franchise since the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has led the team to four Indian Premier League titles over the years.

During his 15-years stint with the Chennai Super Kings, MS Dhoni has witnessed several ups and downs with the franchise. They made a comeback to the league after being banned for a couple of years, in a spot-fixing case. Former cricketer Michael Hussey recalls seeing Dhoni get emotional after their comeback in the IPL 2018.

Speaking to former cricketer Matthew Hayden in a ‘Super Reunion’ video shared by CSK, Hussey recalled the incident. Right before Chennai Super Kings’ come back to the league, Dhoni gave a speech in front of the players.

“I think there’s not one particular memory but we see these championship-winning photos on the wall… I think probably the 2018 season. We were out of the competition for two years. We came back and I remember MS giving a speech right at the start of the season,” Michael Hussey said.

“He actually started tearing; tears were coming out of his eyes and I remember thinking, ‘Something special is happening here,” he added.

2018 IPL was a special season: Michael Hussey

Former cricketer Michael Hussey expressed that the 2018 Indian Premier League season was special, and gives goosebumps. The Chennai Super Kings defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals to lift their third Indian Premier League title.

All-rounder Shane Watson won the Player of the Match in the finals. He slammed an unbeaten 117 off 57 balls, for the Chennai Super Kings, chasing 179 runs in the second innings.

“That was a special season. It gives you goosebumps just thinking about what happened that year. It was almost like it was meant to be after coming back to the IPL. MS played unbelievably well throughout the season. It was just a special time,” said Michael Hussey.
