Tejasvi Jaiswal, the elder brother of India’s rising cricket star Yashasvi Jaiswal, recently gained attention for his remarkable performance in the Ranji Trophy. Representing Tripura, Tejasvi scored his maiden First-Class half-century, with an impressive 82 runs, and took a wicket in his only innings against Baroda in Agartala.
Though now making his mark in domestic cricket, Tejasvi had to set aside his own ambitions years ago to support Yashasvi’s cricket journey due to their family’s financial struggles.
Early Struggles in Mumbai
In a recent interview, Tejasvi shared how he and Yashasvi moved to Mumbai in pursuit of their cricket dreams. However, financial constraints made it nearly impossible for both to continue. Despite his passion for the sport, Tejasvi had to quit cricket in 2013, moving to Delhi to work for a relative. He explained that he prioritized Yashasvi’s promising future, recognizing that they couldn’t afford for both to chase the same goal.
Additionally, facing accusations of age fraud, Tejasvi decided to quit to avoid any impact on Yashasvi’s prospects. “I didn’t want Yashasvi to suffer because of me,” he remarked, emphasizing the sacrifices he made to support his younger brother.
New Responsibilities and a Turning Point
Leaving Mumbai at age 17, Tejasvi took on various jobs, including working as a salesman, to support his family. His earnings contributed to marrying off his two sisters, and he continued to send money to Yashasvi, who remained in Mumbai to train. By 2021, Yashasvi’s career took a positive turn with an IPL contract, bringing financial stability to the family.
Reflecting on his journey, Tejasvi expressed pride in Yashasvi’s success, knowing his sacrifices played a part in it. Now, with his own first-class cricket achievements, Tejasvi is forging his own path, grateful for the resilience that saw both brothers reach new heights despite early hardships.
