“Tell Me God, What Else Do I Need To Experience?”- Prithvi Shaw Reacts To Vijay Hazare Exclusion

Prithvi Shaw spoke out after being excluded from Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. The 25-year-old opener was a significant omission, along with Ajinkya Rahane, from the team for the 50-over domestic tournament.

Mumbai revealed their squad for the first three matches of the competition, to be captained by Shreyas Iyer. Shaw voiced his frustration on Instagram, posting a screenshot of his strong List-A career statistics.

“Tell me God, what more do I have to see? If 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I’m not good enough. But I will keep my faith in you and, hopefully, people still believe in me, because I will come back for sure. Om Sai Ram,” Shaw wrote in his Instagram story.

The young batter was part of Mumbai’s victorious Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign but had a poor run with the bat, scoring only 197 runs in 9 matches. Prithvi Shaw’s struggles persisted, as he scored just 10 runs in the final against Madhya Pradesh in Bengaluru.

To make matters worse, he went unsold at the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Shaw has faced scrutiny for fitness and disciplinary issues. In October 2024, he was excluded from Mumbai’s squad for the first phase of the Ranji Trophy, a move seen as a wake-up call.

What Shreyas Iyer expressed about Shaw?

In 2024, Shaw has managed only 59 runs across four Ranji Trophy innings. While captain Shreyas Iyer recognized Shaw’s talent following Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy victory, he stressed the importance of self-reflection and consistency.

“I think, personally, he is a God-gifted player. The amount of talent he possesses as an individual, no one has it. That’s true. It’s just that he needs to improve his work ethics,” said Shreyas.

“And I have said it before as well in many of the interviews. He needs to get his work ethics right. And if he does that, you know, the sky is the limit for him. Can you force him to? I can’t force him. He has played so much of cricket. And everyone has given him inputs. At the end of the day, it’s his job to go out there and figure out things for himself,” he added.
