Test Cricket Is The Ultimate And Most Challenging – Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle is known for his exploits in white-ball cricket. The big Jamaican has over the years broken every possible record in T20 cricket. In ODIs too Gayle was extremely successful as he ended his career as the leading run-scorer for the West Indies. But the Test career of Gayle has always been underrated and something surprising as he has over 7000 runs in the longest format.

Gayle is only one of four batsmen that have scored two triple centuries in Test match cricket. The destructive opening batsman has represented West Indies in over 100 Tests which a hallmark of a great player.

Recently the ‘Universe Boss’ chatted with team India openers and his Kings XI Punjab teammates Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul. Gayle stated that Test cricket is the toughest format of the game that teaches a player so many things. He believes that Test cricket challenges a cricket player on how to live life off the field for 5 days.

 

“I must say that Test cricket is the ultimate. Playing Test cricket gives you that challenge to how to live life off the field as well because playing five days of cricket is very challenging. Test cricket tests you so many times.”

“How often you get out of bed or about to go to bed, you have to make sure that you are disciplined in everything you do. Also when you are struggling, how you have to rebound from tough situations”, Gayle on the teaser of the series ‘Open Nets with Mayank’ hosted by bcci.tv.

Furthermore, Chris Gayle also had a message for all the youngsters and explained how Test cricket constantly challenges every aspect of a player’s game. He encouraged budding cricketers to stay dedicated and always look to improve yourself. Gayle also added that it is important to stay positive and not be heartbroken if you are a young cricketer.

“So, youngsters, Test cricket allows you to test your skills and mental toughness as well as withing the game. Just be dedicated, enjoy what you do. Even if it’s not within the sport, there’s always something in open out there for you,” said Gayle

“So, if one thing doesn’t work, always remember there’s another opportunity for you. So please don’t be heartbroken if you are cricketer and don’t make within the cricketing arena”, said the 39-year-old.
