It came as a surprise to many when Tevin Imlach made his debut on the international stage before West Indies’ first Test against Pakistan on January 17, 2025.

The Caribbean team’s regular wicketkeeper, Joshua Da Silva, was omitted from the team and Imlach was included to replace him. The talented 28-year-old wicketkeeper-batter had a good start to his career and took three catches in the Test match on the first foggy day of Multan.

Tevin Imlach: The Surprising New Face of West Indies Cricket

It was not a straight path for Imlach right up to the Test team. He was born on November 30, 1996, and has been playing professional cricket for more than 10 years. He represented Guyana at the Under 19 level in cricket and was promoted at the senior level of domestic cricket. Imlach’s domestic record is also excellent: 1097 runs in 22 first-class games and 1006 runs in 33 List A games.

What is more, Imlach has never played any T20 match, despite the fact that T20 cricket is highly popular in the West Indies at the moment. Nevertheless, he had his List-A début in the 2018 Super50 Cup against Canada, where he scored 17 runs.

He was also a member of the West Indies U-19 side that achieved the U-19 World Cup in 2016 after beating the India U-19s. In that particular match, Imlach performed a magnificent stumping against Rishabh Pant, which gave a favourable turn in the match to West Indies.

Imlach’s first appearance on the cricket field and his rather intriguing background have definitely not left fans indifferent. People will be waiting to see how effective he will be when he represents the West Indies again. Of course, Imlach is a rather interesting figure in the greater sphere of West Indies cricket, having all the subjective potential for it.
