The foremost reason for CSK’s unprecedented popularity is because of MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina. The two are fondly called “Thala” and “Chinna Thala” in Chennai which has become extremely well known all across India. “Thala” means the leader which Dhoni is whereas “Chinna Thala” is the right hand of the leader.
Along with Suresh Raina, several other cricketers and well-known personalities wished the legendary MS Dhoni on his birthday. Dhoni was last seen playing in the world cup semi-finals last years which was also his 350th ODI match.
MS Dhoni remains the only captain that has won all the major ICC trophies in his illustrious career. In his debut captaincy, event Dhoni along with his young side won the first-ever T20 world Cup in 2007. Later in 2011 after 28 years under Dhoni’s leadership, India won the 50 over world cup at home. Then he completed the cycle and lifted the ICC champions trophy in England in 2013.
In the IPL, the 39-year-old has led CSK to glory on three occasions in 2010, 2011 and 2018. Dhoni was all set to return on the cricket field in the IPL 2020. But unfortunately, the 13th edition of the T20 league got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
