Team India batter KL Rahul expressed that he is enjoying playing in the middle order in Test cricket. He had a good outing with the bat in the second Test against England on Friday, January 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

KL Rahul missed out on a well-deserved century during the first innings of the test. He slammed 86 runs with eight boundaries and two sixes. Speaking about his performance, he expressed that his century during the test series in South Africa earlier this year has boosted his confidence. KL Rahul said,

“The 100 in SA has given me some confidence, also having played 6-7 months of cricket since my injury. The aim was to stay positive when I went out to bat.”

“Very different to that of South Africa (on the pitch) – a bit of turn, it became slower and slower as the ball went old. [It] Was a challenge. I had to wait for my opportunity to play shots,” he added.

I am enjoying batting in the middle order: KL Rahul

KL Rahul has scored 2841 runs for Team India in Test cricket at an average of 34.23, with eight centuries. He had a brief stint as an opener for Team India in test cricket. He is now looking after the middle-order duties in the format. The veteran expressed that he is enjoying batting in the middle-order as it allows the batters to plan their innings looking at how the wicket is behaving. He said,

“[I am] Enjoying batting in the middle-order. I did enjoy batting in the top-order for a long time, but here you get some time to put your feet up, watch as to how the ball is doing, what the bowlers are doing and it gives time to plan your innings.”

Talking about the first Test, India is leading by 175 runs at the end of the second day’s play. They have put on 421 runs in response to England’s 246 in the first innings. Ravindra Jadeja is at the crease along with Axar Patel.
