Team India captain Rohit Sharma recently teased teammate Yuzvendra Chahal after the hosts registered an easy win over West Indies in the first ODI. Chahal and Rohit both made significant contributions as India bounced back from a 0-3 defeat against South Africa.

Bowling first, India rode on a four-wicket haul from Yuzvendra Chahal and a three-wicket haul from Washington Sundar to restrict West Indies to 176 runs before chasing it down within 28 overs.

Rohit Sharma set the tone with a half-century before debutant Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav added 68 runs to take India home. Praising the veteran leg-spinner, Rohit teased Yuzvendra Chahal wishing him luck for the upcoming auction.

“You are a key player for us, I want you to play with that mindset. There will always be ups and downs. But it is very important to play with the right mindset. And the auction is coming as well, so good luck,” Rohit said in a video released by BCCI.

Incidentally, Royal Challengers Bangalore have not retained Chahal for the upcoming auction. He will go into the IPL 2022 mega auction, scheduled to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru.

“It’s a good feeling when you take 100 wickets” – Yuzvendra Chahal

Meanwhile, Chahal’s four-wicket haul took him over the 100-wicket mark in one-day cricket. Since making his debut in 2016, the cricketer from Haryana now has  103 wickets in 60 ODIs at an average of 27.3 so far.

Speaking of stint so far, Yuzvendra Chahal pointed out that he has altered his arm position to get the maximum out of his bowling.

“It feels great. My career has seen ups and downs in the last five years. But it’s a good feeling when you take 100 wickets in any format, it’s a big thing. I had never imagined I will achieve it this early. I continued bowling with the same approach,” Chahal said.

“I have changed the angle a bit, especially for slow wickets. When I was not a part of the team, I was thinking about the improvement I can bring in my bowling. I used to see other bowlers who used to get a bit side arm for these wickets, so I also noticed that the release is much quicker and there is more effort from the wrist in that case,” he added.
