The BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) Is Planned To Take Place In Goa On September 25th

The BCCI‘s AGM, scheduled for September 25th in Goa, will prominently feature the appointment of three new members to the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council as a significant agenda item.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah issued a notice on Sunday night, announcing that the 92nd Annual General Meeting (referred to as AGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India .

BCCI is scheduled to take place at W Hotel – Goa on September 25, 2023, for the purpose of conducting business as outlined in the attached agenda. The exact time of the AGM will be communicated at a later point.

Shah has presented an agenda comprising 18 points for the AGM, with the most prominent items listed at the beginning, which are identified as Item B and C. These agenda items are detailed below:

B. The election and inclusion of 2 (two) members from the General Body into the IPL’s Governing Council.

C. The inclusion of 1 (one) representative from the Indian Cricketers’ Association into the IPL’s Governing Council.

Currently, the General Body is represented by Arun Singh Dhumal as the chairman and Avishek Dalmiya as a member. The Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) has Pragyan Ojha as its sole representative, who secured a place in the Governing Council through the ICA election held last year.

Whether new members will be added, possibly in consideration of the launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), or if there will be alterations to the existing members remains to be determined.

The Governing Council includes Secretary Shah, Treasurer Ashish Shelar, and CAG member CM Sane

Notably, there’s no indication of a modification to the senior men’s selection committee, even though there was an expectation of change after Ajit Agarkar from Mumbai was named as the committee’s chairman in July.

This committee also includes another selector from Mumbai, Salil Ankola, but lacks representation from the North Zone. There has been speculation that adjustments might be made during the AGM to rectify this.

However, there is a specific item on the agenda where the reformation of the selection committee can be addressed. This item is stated as follows:

K. Nomination of the Cricket Committees and Standing Committees as outlined in Rule 26 and Rule 25, respectively.

Rule 26 focuses on the establishment of selection committees for various formats, including men, women, and junior teams, whereas Rule 25 addresses the formation of tournament committees.

Another significant aspect worth mentioning is the selection of the BCCI’s delegate to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and other global organizations such as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

It’s anticipated that Shah will be proposed for these positions. Item J on the agenda pertains to the designation of the Ombudsman and Ethics Officer.

Significant issues are typically dealt with through a specific agenda item that reads, “Review of any matters the President deems essential to incorporate in the agenda.” This is designated as item Q, and it’s possible that important decisions will be taken within this category.

All 38 members of the general body have been formally informed about the AGM.
