Team India batter Shubman Gill slammed his maiden International century in the third ODI against Zimbabwe on Monday, August 22 at the Harare Sports Club. He fell short of the achievement on a couple of occasions earlier this year. Even in the first ODI, the right-handed batter played a good knock, but could not get to his century as India won the match before his milestone. However, he was determined to get to his maiden hundred at the International level.
Shubman Gill carried his rich vein of form in the third ODI. He walked out to bat at number three after the fall of skipper KL Rahul’s wicket. The opening duo of Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan put on 63 runs on the board for the first wicket. Shubman Gill looked in great touch at the crease as he looked to put on a good partnership.
The right-handed batter along with Ishan Kishan scored 140 runs for the third wicket-stand. Ishan Kishan slammed a fifty off 61 deliveries in the innings. Gill completed his maiden International century in the forty-third over. Nyauchi bowled a good length delivery, which he punched towards the sweeper cover region. Gill took a single off the delivery to get to his hundred.

Shubman Gill’s blazing performance on the Zimbabwe tour
Shubman Gill began the Zimbabwe tour on a fantastic note slamming 82 runs off just 72 deliveries in the first ODI. He has ended it brilliantly, with his maiden International century for India. So far, he is the leading run-scorer in the series, scoring 245 runs at an average of 122.50. With his 130-runs knock, the right-handed batter has broken several records.
Gill registered the highest individual score by an Indian against Zimbabwe in ODIs thus breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record. The Mumbai batter had scored 127* in 1998 in the first ODI of the three-match series. Gill also completed 1000 runs in International cricket. With the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 around the corner, he will be keen to continue his blazing form.
