Former India captain Anil Kumble, who has picked 619 wickets in 132 Tests and 337 wickets in 271 ODIs for India, served as India’s head coach in the period between 2016-2017.

Recently, he appeared in an online session with Pommie Mbangwa where he said that the end of his coaching stint could’ve been better. However, Kumble said that he does not regret the short coaching stint.

End could have better – Anil Kumble on India coach role

During the period things didn’t really go well between Anil Kumble and India captain Virat Kohli. Due to the differences between the captain and coach, Kumble had to step down. In the Twitter post-Kumble put up, it said that the captain (Kohli) had reservations with his style of coaching.

“We did really well in that one year period. I was really happy that there were some contributions made and there are no regrets. I was happy moving on from there as well,” the former spinner told ex-Zimbabwean cricketer Pommie Mbangwa in an online session.

The former captain said that he was really happy that he played a significant role in coaching India in that one particular year. Anil Kumble admitted he knew that rift with Kohli won’t end well so it was time to move on from his role as head coach.

“I know the end could have been better but then that’s fine. As a coach, you realise, when it’s time to move on, it’s the coach who needs to move on. I was really happy I played a significant role in that one year. I was very happy that I took up that role (India coach). It was great, the one year I spent with the Indian team was really fantastic,” said Kumble.

In October 2019, Anil Kumble took over the role of the Head Coach and the Director of Cricket Operations for Kings Xi Punjab. He will have a tough job at hand with Kings XI chasing their first IPL trophy when the tournament commences in UAE.
