The Test series victory against the Proteas redefines the term ‘ teamwork’ in the Indian side. Not just Kohli’s double century, but useful contributions from almost everybody in the team helped to clinch the series. India has always been a one to defeat at home, but the question is can they keep maintaining the same until March 2020?

Right after the Proteas series, the Bangla tigers will be here for a three-match T20I series and a couple of Tests. The focus will be primarily on building a reliable T20I squad with the tournament in store for the next year. As far as Tests are concerned, India is comfortably at the top of the ICC World Test Championship table so it shouldn’t be a problem unless injury concerns arise.

West Indies, Srilanka, and the Kangaroos will also be arriving in consecutive months for a bunch of limited over Internationals. However, a litmus test awaits India after the three-match ODI series against Australia

India will tour New Zealand in late January for an all-format tour. A 5-match T20I series is what seems to be a highlight of this tour.

It is to be noted that India will also play a couple of tests as a part of the tour. Earlier this year, there weren’t any Tests played as the tour was limited to just limited overs. It will be an intense clash when the present top two sides compete for the Test Championship.

The season ends with a three-match ODI series against Proteas at home in March 2020.

The key to success

India will be playing over 14 T20I’s and 12 ODI’s right from Bangladesh series. With over 26 matches in store, the team management will try to put a proper roadmap not only for the T20I World Cup 2020 but also for the home WC in 2023.

It will be interesting to see how the team management and the BCCI will work hand-in-hand to deliver its best. Will a lot of domestic players given a go? What is Dhoni’s role in games going forward? Will Saini be given a go in the game to come?

For sure, the nurturing is going to take place, but the timeframe for the same is the one that raises the curiosity levels among the fans.
