Former South African legend pacer Shabnim Ismail registered the first hat trick of the Women’s Hundred during the 2023 edition. She achieved this milestone for Welsh Fire against Birmingham Phoenix at Edgbaston, Birmingham on 10th August 2023.

Birmingham Phoenix was looking good for a win, but Ismail came to the rescue picking up 3 wickets off the 98th, 99th, and 100th delivery to give Welsh Fire thrilling 3 runs victory. Ismail dismissed well-set Tess Flintoff, and Erin Burns and castled Issy Wong’s stumps helping Welsh Fire register a great win. She ended with figures of 3 for 31 off 20 deliveries. Shabnim Ismail was awarded the player of the match for her hat trick.

Thanks to Tammy Beaumont’s 59, Mathews, and Dunkley knocks, Welsh Fire made 137 for 7 off 100 deliveries. With this win, Welsh Fire women moved to the top of the points table with 3 wins out of 4 matches they have played.

Alana King became the first player in Women’s Hundred to take a hattrick. She achieved this milestone for Trent Rockets against Manchester Originals during the 2022 edition of the tournament.

Shabnim Ismail’s history in Women’s Hundred

Shabnim Ismail was signed by Oval Invincibles as a replacement player for Racheal Haynes in the first edition of the Women’s Hundred competition in 2021. Oval Invincibles won the first edition of the tournament and played a key role in helping them to win the title.

Shabnim Ismail was bought by the Welsh Fire side this season. She has performed really this season so far with 6 wickets from 3 matches (3 innings) with best figures of 3 for 12. Ismail

Ismail had a disappointing outing in the first edition picking up only 3 wickets from 7 matches ( 6 innings) at an economy of 5.47 runs per over. She was again signed by Oval Invincibles side in the 2022 edition of the Hundred competition. Ismail picked up only 5 wickets from 7 matches ( 7 innings) at an economy of 6.77 runs per over.

Oval Invincibles retained the title again in the 2022 edition. Ismail would be looking to continue her brilliant form for Welsh Fire. She is currently 3rd in terms of leading wicket-taker this edition and hopes to help the Fire win matches.
