The Outcome Of The Asia Cup Will Probably Be Decided On May 28

The hybrid model put forth by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may be used for the 2023 Asia Cup, according to reports coming out of Pakistan.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suggested that an announcement regarding this might be made during the IPL championship.

The leaders of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Bangladesh Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have been invited by the BCCI.

Sri Lanka won the 2022 Asia Cup T20 match that was played in the United Arab Emirates

It is anticipated that an announcement will be made following the meeting of the Asian boards on May 28 in Ahmedabad.

On May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Tata IPL 2023 final will be attended by the respective presidents of Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards.

”The future course of action for the Asia Cup 2023 will be discussed with them”, according to Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

There have been some private conversations between ACC members over the past week. Cricbuzz confirms that there is a sense that a consensus has been reached.

The only point of contention is whether Sri Lanka or the UAE will host the second venue.

The BCCI was reportedly upset with the UAE board and Shah was in favour of Sri Lanka rather than Dubai, Sharjah or Abu Dhabi.  Clarity regarding the second location will surface during the meetings in Ahmedabad.

”India’s games would be played in the UAE, while Pakistan and the UAE would host the other matches under the hybrid model put forth by the PCB”, the Asia Cup’s official host.

The BCCI resisted the model, so PCB president Najam Sethi then put forth a watered-down version with Pakistan getting to host only four games and the rest in the UAE.

The meeting in Ahmedabad will also discuss the unfavourable weather in the UAE. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh’s boards had previously declined to host the continental championship due to the oppressive heat in September.

A successful outcome during the talks in Ahmedabad could avoid a standoff in the run-up to the 50-over mega event. The PCB had made a connection between its World Cup participation and how the Asia Cup was handled.
