Divyang wheelchair Indian cricket team will celebrate Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary in Surat, Sardar Patel Unity will start on October 28. The Pithawalla family has been the pioneer in developing the sport among differently-abled sportspersons.
Sardar Patel Unity Cup – T-20 Wheelchair Cricket tournament will witness the participation of 34 Players from across the nation, representing two wheelchair cricket teams i.e. India A & Rest Of India.
Mr Mehul Pithawalla from Big Bash Sports league Link in a press release said that the Differently Able Cricket Council of India (DCCI supported by BCCI) to realize the vision of an inclusive India of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and to help the disabled community in India to achieve global fame in cricket, overcoming physical and mental limitations with high morale.
(DCCI) and Big Bash Sports League of Mumbai has organized a T20 – Wheelchair Cricket Tournament in the name of the Sardar Patel Unity Cup at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Surat on the occasion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary, in which a total of 34 nominated and national level Wheelchair Players from India have participated in the tournament.
Padmashri Kanubhai Tailor, President of Disability Welfare Trust of India, Brand Ambassador of Sardar Patel Unity Cup, T20 wheelchair cricket and Padma Shri honoree said:
“This initiative is inspired by the strong determination of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel. With this initiative we will make a humble attempt to pay a true tribute to Sardar Patel’s legacy of a united India with the courage and determination of the wheelchair cricketers of India.
“We will also organize more tournaments at the national level to encourage the differently abled to participate in the tournaments regularly and maintain their skills and strengthen the players.”
The tournament will begin on 28th October 2022 with a grand opening ceremony at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat and will conclude on October 30, 2022. Shital Pithawalla from Big Bash Sports League said:
“This cricket tournament is a message to create awareness towards the differently abled and integrate them into the mainstream of society. The Sardar Patel Unity Cup final will be played on 30th October 2022 and will be followed by a Grand Closing Ceremony.
“For the first time, the Differently Abled National Cricket Tournament will be organized in Surat to honor Sardar Patel’s legacy. It is a matter of pride for all the people of Surat to hold this national-level cricket tournament in Surat.”
